The MVI56E-MCMR is a ProSoft Technology communication module, an Allen-Bradley encompass partner company. This module supports MODBUS Serial / ASCII communication and comes with dual RS232 serial application ports. These ports support RS232 / RS485 and RS422 electrical standards with configurable baud rate of 110 baud to 115.2 kbps. Acceptable serial settings include none, odd or even parity, data bits of 5,6,7 and 8; Stop bits of 1 or 2 and RTS on / off delay of 0-65535 miliseconds. This module also comes with a debug / configuration port in the form of an RJ45 Ethernet port. This port supports 10/100 base-T transmission speed with Link and Activity LED indicators as well as Auto-crossover cable detection.
The MVI56E-MCMR is a single slot module that directly installs to any 1756 chassis.

MVI56E-MCMR Prosoft ControlLogix Enhanced Modbus
With the reduced data block, the MVI56E-MCMR requires less backplane/network bandwidth and enables simpler scheduling and transfer over ControlNet networks. Additionally, the reduced data block is practically used in remote chassis installation when used with ControlNet communication adapters and redundant controllers.
To install the Prosoft MVI56E-MCMR module, users must have an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix processor with one free slot in the rack for this Modbus module and 800 mA of power available with a 5 Volts DC backplane power source. The device also needs an additional 3 mA from a 24 Volts DC power source. This enhanced Modbus master/slave communication module can be stored at a temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius (-40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit), but it can be used only at a temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit). For data transfers between the MVI56E-MCMR and processor, sample ladder instructions or add-on instructions are used. On the upper front side of the device, there is a scrolling LED display with 4 characters for status and diagnostic messages display in plain English. This module has a CF card option to store all the user’s configuration settings. In this way, users can replace a defective module with a new one and perform a quick in-the-field transfer all the settings and data from the CF card.
