With the mission of “driving the world and promoting energy conservation”, ABB Motion Control enables various industries to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction by developing and providing innovative inverters, motors, generators, and integrated digital transmission chain solutions, which are fully aligned with the vision of China’s “dual carbon” goal. By the end of 2022, ABB has delivered more than 11 million inverters and high-efficiency motors in China, saving more than 510 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, equivalent to reducing about 500 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, and saving electricity equivalent to the total electricity consumption of Shanghai in three years.
At the same time, ABB aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030, and achieve sustainable development through the use of renewable energy generation, improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions. Not long ago, the “green factory” Beijing ABB Electric Drive System Co., Ltd. and its Nanjing Servo Research and development center were awarded the “carbon neutral” certificate by Beijing Green Exchange Co., LTD., marking the realization of ABB drive’s operational carbon neutral goal in 2022; Two ABB companies, ABB High Voltage Motor Co., Ltd. and Shanghai ABB Motor Co., Ltd. were selected as “Zero carbon benchmark factories” by the Shanghai Economic and Information Technology Commission, and are achieving the Group’s sustainable development goals ahead of schedule.
In order to raise awareness of energy conservation more widely and combat climate change, ABB has launched the “Energy Efficiency Action” initiative worldwide since 2021. As one of the series of activities of this initiative, ABB held the ABB China Energy Efficiency Seminar in March this year, and experts and representatives from the government, academia and the business community had in-depth exchanges on the theme of energy efficiency, explained the opportunities and challenges faced by improving industrial energy efficiency, and jointly explored a new model of low-carbon transformation, and jointly built a new ecology of green development. At present, more Chinese companies are joining the initiative and taking concrete actions to reduce energy consumption and emissions.
According to a global survey commissioned by ABB last year, China leads the way in energy efficiency investment, with 86% of participating Chinese companies planning to improve energy efficiency in their operations. These findings reflect the achievements of the Chinese government in the 14th Five-Year Plan and its efforts to combat climate change. ABB believes that technology is the key to a prosperous and sustainable future, and will develop more efficient motor and inverter products and solutions that integrate digital technologies to support Chinese industries in improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions, helping to achieve the “two-carbon” goal and high-quality sustainable development.
