It is urgent to expand the scale of application
The current development of the Internet of Things always has the feeling of “big thunder, little rain”. Chen Baoguo believes that there is an urgent need to expand the application scope of the Internet of Things and strengthen the application of the Internet of Things in various fields. With large-scale applications, it is possible to connect small-scale applications.
However, in order to achieve large-scale applications, it faces many problems: lack of core technology, high product prices, and insufficient market demand drivers. Wang Huan told the China Electronics News reporter that the lack of UHF RFID technology makes the price of RFID chips high, which is difficult for Chinese enterprises to bear.
The reporter once interviewed Yangzijiang Pharmaceutical Group, and a person in charge of the information center of the group introduced the Internet of Things logistics demonstration project to the reporter, mentioning that the cost price of RFID attached to each box of drugs is about 1 yuan. Although the implementation of the demonstration project has greatly improved the efficiency of drug circulation management and achieved effective drug traceability, the cost of RFID tags is still a problem, and the application of ordinary low-cost drugs is facing difficulties.
The retail industry is a key area of Internet of Things application, but the low prices and low profits of this industry make it difficult to promote Internet of Things technology. Wang Huan gave reporters an example, the United Kingdom’s Marks and Spencer in its sales of clothing to add RFID tags, a year of about 300 million pieces of demand, equivalent to a medium-sized RFID enterprises in China more than 1 year production capacity. China’s shoe industry, with an annual capacity of 17 billion pairs, a considerable part of which will be exported shoes, but China’s shoe manufacturers may only earn a few cents from a pair of shoes, if the RFID tag is added, then it will be unprofitable.
Wang Huan believes that there are already more cases of large-scale application of the Internet of Things in foreign trade and retail industry, mainly driven by market forces, while the domestic situation is relatively complex: first, there is no real strong retailer; The second is that the human cost has not become the decisive factor for enterprises to apply the Internet of Things technology; The third is that it is basically difficult for enterprises to spontaneously use Internet of Things technology, and a considerable part of them are waiting for the state to adopt financial means to subsidize the development of technology and application, and enterprises are not motivated to spontaneously apply Internet of Things technology out of saving labor costs or improving production efficiency.
“Large-scale use of RFID tags may be able to reduce labor costs, thus offsetting the cost of RFID tags.” Wang Huan analyzed, “And if the large-scale application problem is successfully solved, the scale and usage of sensors and RFID will come, then the Internet of Things market involved in transmission, information processing and application layer will also be driven up.”
