Nord has two production sites in Poland, one of which will be expanded nearly threefold in Wyslicce, western Poland. Innovative IE5+ motors are produced at the plant, which will install a new geothermal system in addition to expanding the existing plant.

Located in western Poland, the Wylice plant is Nord’s second production site in Poland after the New Sur plant. The plant was completed in 2019, and as the demand for capacity increases, it needs more production space, so NORd plans to expand the plant, the existing plant will be expanded from both sides, when the plant area will be expanded from 11,000 square meters to 32,000 square meters, almost three times. “The growing demand for IE5+ motors and other motors made it necessary for us to expand the plant.” Jorg Niermann, Head of Marketing at NorD, said:

Construction of the expansion began in April 2023 and will be operational in the second quarter of 2024. At present, the plant produces 10,000 motors per week, and after the expansion, the capacity will be expanded by three times, and the current 220 employees will be expanded.

IE5+ synchronous motor production base

The Vichlicze plant is particularly important in NORD’s global production network, where IE5+ synchronous motors are produced with high energy efficiency, even exceeding the highest IE5 energy efficiency rating defined by the industry. The plant, located about 100 kilometers from the German border, also produces motors in sizes 63 to 160.

In addition, NORD manufactures stators at the plant, and its core component windings are fully automated in two production lines.

With highly qualified employees and production facilities that meet the latest requirements, Jorg Niermann stresses: “We have reached an excellent level in automatic winding. There is no industry-wide standard.”

Zero-emission heating using geothermal energy

As part of the expansion, NORD will also move forward with another innovative project: the installation of a geothermal system. With a total of 52 boreholes, each up to 250 meters deep, the system extracts heat energy from the ground, which is then used for zero-emission heating on the factory floor. “From a geological point of view, the Vichilite plant is very suitable for geothermal energy.” Jorg Niermann explains, “As a family-owned company with a focus on creating social value, we see sustainability as an important part of our corporate social responsibility, and here we see good possibilities to further reduce our carbon footprint.”
