Terminal servers are used in local area networks (Lans) to connect many terminals to IBM mainframe systems or minicomputer systems. The terminal is connected to the terminal server via the RS-232 serial port, and the terminal server is connected to an Ethernet or a token network. This network then serves as a link between the host system and the terminal. A terminal server is basically an asynchronous multiplexer that connects not only terminals, but also computers, modems, printers, and other peripherals to the host system. The terminal server has a number of serial ports and corresponding network interfaces.

A terminal server is basically an asynchronous multiplexer that connects not only terminals, but also computers, modems, printers, and other peripherals to the host system. The terminal server has a number of serial ports and corresponding network interfaces.

The terminal server is not a gateway because the connected terminal device uses a communication protocol compatible with the host. When a personal computer is connected to a host through a terminal server, it runs a terminal emulator to mimic the communication protocol on a terminal. However, it should be noted that in order for the terminal server to send data to the host system over the network, it must encapsulate the data to be sent from the terminal. The terminal server is a communication interface protocol converter that performs data conversion between RS-232 terminals and TCP/IP.

In addition, there are some cloud terminal servers, such as fast bear K890, which are mainly used in cloud desktop virtualization zero client workstation real estate agency production line trailer box remote desktop browser terminal and other application scenarios.

VersaMax Modular CPUs supply a number of features usually found only in PLCs with larger footprints, including up to 128kB of memory for application programs, floating point math, real-time clock, subroutines, PID control, flash memory, and bumpless program store. The serial ports support serial read/write and Modbus master/slave communications. An Abundance of Useful I/O Options
Emerson offers a broad range of discrete, analog, mixed, and specialty I/O modules. These modules can be freely combined to create stand-alone I/O stations with up to 256 I/O points and expanded I/O systems with up to 2048 I/O points.
The Perfect Match for Today’s Open Systems
VersaMax gives you the freedom to connect to a wide variety of host controllers, including PLC, DCS and PC-based control systems by way of PROFINET (remote I/O only), Modbus/TCP, and other Ethernet networks as well as Genius, DeviceNet, Profibus-DP. VersaMax also fully supports the power and open architecture of Emerson’s PC Control solutions.
The Ultimate in Cost-effective Control and I/O With intuitive diagnostics, hot insertion of modules and quick connect wiring, VersaMax extends uptime, reduces engineering and training needs, and dramatically reduces project lifecycle costs.
