CTI-2501 DEGREE Framework: Comprehensive Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) coverage
In the DEGREE framework, Siemens has defined its development goals in the area of environmental, social and governance (ESG). The company will implement holistic approach principles across six focus areas and set rigorous and measurable metrics. These six areas of focus include decarbonization, ethics, governance, resource efficiency, equity and employability.
Decarbonization: Significant progress and increased investment to meet new targets
CTI-2501 Siemens has made significant progress in climate protection. The company is committed to becoming carbon neutral in its own operations by 2030 and has achieved a 46% reduction in carbon emissions since 2019. Siemens aims to accelerate carbon reduction and has set an interim target of reducing actual carbon emissions from its operations by 55% by the end of fiscal 2025 compared to 2019. At the same time, Siemens also increased its actual CO2 reduction target for 2030 to 90 percent from 50 percent compared to 2019. In order to achieve this goal, the company will invest 650 million euros in decarbonization by 2030, especially through its own technology. Based on the Science-based Carbon Reduction Initiative (SBTi), Siemens supports the goals of the Paris Agreement and actively contributes to the achievement of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Siemens has also made significant progress in improving resource efficiency. For example, in fiscal year 2022, it reduced its landfill volume by 12 percent and increased material recycling to 84 percent of its waste.
Invest in people: Empower employees for long-term employability
Siemens is committed to investing in people, providing employees with a fair and healthy working environment while encouraging lifelong learning. In fiscal year 2022, Siemens spent an average of about 21 hours of digital learning per employee, an increase of about 14 hours compared to fiscal year 2020. In fiscal year 2022, Siemens invested 280 million euros in the vocational training and continuing education of its employees. Recognizing the importance of continuing education and ensuring the long-term employability of its employees, Siemens aims to increase the average annual digital learning time of its employees to 25 hours by the end of fiscal 2025.
