The final version, which was released on the same day, is composed of three main parts, including improving the framework conditions of Germany as an industrial base, strengthening the research and development of new technologies and mobilizing private capital, and safeguarding the technological sovereignty of German industry on a global scale.
According to German media reports, the strategy allows the German government to prevent companies from non-EU countries and regions from acquiring German companies in certain fields by using state funds to buy shares in local companies in the future. Mr Altmaier said such a move would be a “last resort” and a “backup option”.
1756-IB32 Dieter Kempf, president of the Federation of German Industries, said that industry supported the government’s general commitment to apply liberal economic policies and did not support government intervention to ensure technological sovereignty.
1756-IB32 The draft strategy, published by the Ministry of Economy and Energy in February this year, aims to provide targeted support to key industrial sectors, increase industrial output and ensure the competitiveness of German industry in Europe and the world.
