• More than 100 ABB GoFa™ collaborative robots are integrated to create lab automation workstations to accelerate research and development in healthcare
• ABB established a strategic partnership with Jingtai after the official opening of ABB’s Robot Empowerment Center in Shanghai’s Zhangjiang Robot Valley
ABB collaborative robots continue to expand their application scenarios to help in emerging areas such as sample transportation, inspection and quality control
126599-01 ABB Robotics and Jingtai Technology recently reached a strategic partnership to build a series of laboratory automation workstations in China. The new automated laboratory will increase the efficiency of research and development in the fields of biomedicine, petrochemicals, new energy and new materials.
126599-01 Jose-Manuel Collados, global head of the Robotics product line at ABB Robotics Services, said: “Our collaboration with Jingtech is exciting and marks another milestone for ABB collaborative robotics in the life sciences sector. ABB Robotics and Jingtai Technology are fundamentally advancing laboratory research and development by introducing automated equipment that can work side by side with people. ABB is committed to enabling pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to develop new medicines at a lower cost and faster speed, thereby empowering disease prevention research and creating healthier societies. Our new ABB Robotics Empowerment Center in Zhangjiang, Shanghai, is focused on life and health and complements the research on healthcare automation technology at the Texas Medical Center in Houston.
Modular custom lab workstations
126599-01 Jingtai Technology is committed to driving intelligent and digital transformation in the field of life sciences and new materials. In 2022, the AI technology company purchased more than 100 ABB GoFa collaborative robots to build automated workstations in its LABS in Shanghai and Shenzhen. In August 2023, Jingtai Technology’s new brand “Jingtai Intelligent Manufacturing” was officially launched, aiming to make automation equipment a powerful help for scientific researchers. In partnership with ABB Robotics, Kingtech Automation automates the synthesis and crystallization required for the development of new drugs and materials in its target industries by using GoFa™ collaborative robots.
Automated lab workstations can be customized to your needs, using a combination of different modules to complete a variety of experimental steps. ABB GoFa cobots are capable of performing repetitive tasks and working 24/7 to help speed up experiments. Automated experimental equipment to produce high-quality large-scale data will make the “design-manufacturing-test-analyze” (Design-Make-Test-Analyze) research and development cycle more rapid and efficient, and become a solid foundation for promoting the high-quality development of artificial intelligence to promote science.
126599-01 The multi-functional flexible laboratory workstation created by the GoFa cooperative robot includes: preparation station, dilution filter station, reaction station, UPLC test station, glove box, satellite bin and autonomous mobile car, which makes the laboratory research and development towards a new platform that is faster and more efficient.
Collaborative robots challenge complex experimental tasks
Lab automation workstations can perform up to hundreds of different experiments. ABB’s GoFa collaborative robots work in a range of challenging environments. This includes performing complex tasks in a waterless, oxygen-free environment such as a glove box, including lid opening, placement, pipetting, sampling, filtration, dilution, magnetic stirring, rapid sampling, UPLC testing, and other processes to minimize the need for manual supervision. Different workstations can be connected in series by autonomous mobile robots equipped with GoFa collaborative robots to autonomously complete sample transfer tasks, improving efficiency and further reducing costs.
