8237-1597 ProTech-GII’s Bulkhead 3 separate internal modules

The ProTech-GII is an overspeed safety device designed to safely shut down steam, gas and hydro turbines of all sizes when an overspeed or over-acceleration event is detected. The device accurately monitors turbine rotor speed and acceleration via an active or passive MPU (electromagnetic pickup) and issues a stop command to the turbine’s gate jump valve or corresponding trip system.

ProTech-GII has the following features:

Acceleration detection: Can be configured to protect turbines from high acceleration events. The derivative of the speed signal is used to detect the turbine acceleration and issue the relevant trip command.
Main control board detection: The speed sensor inputs in each module use a special MPU open-wire detection circuit to verify that the MPU is properly connected before the turbine is run, and special stall detection logic to verify this.
Real-time clock: Each ProTech-GII module utilizes a real-time clock to ensure accurate time recording.
Automatic test program function: Each ProTech-GII module can be tested manually through the module’s front panel, Modbus communication port, or automatically through its automatic test program function.
Redundant hardwire input and output signals or interfaces to related control systems or factory DCS(distributed control system) via its triple redundant serial Modbus communication port.
Online testing: Each ProTech-GII module can be tested manually through the module’s front panel, Modbus communication port, or automatically through its automatic test program function.
Trip, alarm, and overspeed logs: ProTech-GII logs (saved to memory) all trip, alarm, trip valve response times, and overspeed events. Each log file can be viewed from the front panel of the device or downloaded to the computer via GII’s service tool program. Each module makes use of non-volatile memory to ensure that all recorded events are preserved, even if the power is off.
Module to module learning function and the base plate adopts plug and play structure, so it is very easy to replace.
