The Allen-Bradley 1756-L72 is a ControlLogix series programmable automation controller (PAC). It has 4 MB of user memory and 0.98 MB of I/O memory for data and logic. The controller comes with a 1 GB SD card 1784-SD1, which can be used as optional non-volatile memory storage. If the storage space is not enough for you, you can also upgrade it to 2 GB with the 1784-SD2 card. It is recommended to install SD cards to the controller and only use SD cards sold by Rockwell Automation, as these cards have been thoroughly tested to work with the controller. Using other SD cards carries the risk of data loss or corruption. The SD card is mainly used to store diagnostic data that is automatically written when a fault occurs. Rockwell Automation uses this data for troubleshooting purposes. The 1756-L72 controller is also equipped with three capacitive energy storage modules. The 1756-ESMCAP/1756-ESMCAPK is a detachable module available in each controller. Another removable module is the 1756-ESMNSE / 1756-ESMNSEK, which has no remaining WallClockTime power backup.
