The NI PXI-7340 Motion Controller utilizes the DSP for all closed-loop control, including position tracking, PID closed-loop control computation, and motion trajectory generation. The DSP chip is supported by custom FPGAs that perform the rapid encoder interfacing, position catch and breakpoint functions, motion I/O processing, and stepper pulse generation for hard real-time functionality. The inserted CPU in this model runs to multitasking, constant working framework and handles host communications, command processing, multi-axis interpolation, error handling, general-purpose digital I/O, and overall motion framework integration capacities.

The embedded firmware depends on an installed RTOS piece and gives ideal framework execution in different motion applications. Motion tasks are organized. Task execution order relies upon the need of each task, the condition of the whole motion framework, I/O or other framework events, and the real-time clock

The PXI 7340 is run using the NI-Motion driver software which is compatible with software packages/application development environments (ADES) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Microsoft Visual C++, Microsoft Visual Basic, and AKD WorkBench software. The device hardware can be configured using the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool.
