The NI SCXI-1121 (Part Number: 776572-21) is a 4-Channel Universal Input Module created for many types of sensor and signal inputs that entail isolation. This module provides separately configurable isolation amplifiers, filters, and excitation sources for every channel. The SCXI 1121 can obtain strain, resistance temperature detector, thermocouple, millivolt, volt, and current input signals. Additionally, this Universal Input Module can be utilized to multiplex channels into one channel of a data acquisition instrument; the user can add modules to increase channel count. The SCXI 1121 provides parallel mode operation as well. This Universal Input Module has offset potentiometers, allowing the user to calibrate each of the four channels manually. NI suggests calibrating the module once a year. The device has an output range of ±5 V.

The NI SCXI-1121 module has two output modes: Parallel-Output Mode and Multiplexed-Output Mode. The Parallel-Output Mode operates with all four input channels linked in parallel to four data acquisition board channels. However, Multiplexed-Output Mode operates with all four channels multiplexed into one data acquisition board channel.
The SCXI-1121 can work with complete functionality with the NI MIO-16 Boards. The NI SCXI-1121 Universal Input Module can additionally work with the Lab-PC+ board in one-chassis SCXI systems. Although, the Lab-PC+ board cannot control SCXI systems with more than one chassis. Furthermore, the Lab-NB, Lab-PC, Lab-LC, and PC-LPM-16 boards can be used with the SCXI-1121 but can only control one-chassis SCXI systems and cannot scan the module when it is in the Multiplexed-Output mode. These boards can only complete single-channel reads in this mode. In addition, several NI SCXI 1121 modules can be multiplexed into one channel, which will boost the quantity of analog input signals that can be digitized.
The SCXI-1121 is run using the NIDAQmx driver software which can be programmed using software packages or application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW or LabWindows/CVI. The NI device weighs 23.5 oz, and measures 1.2 x 6.8 x 7.4 in. in physical dimensions.
