PR6424/000-030+CON021 8mm Eddy Current Sensor
The working principle of eddy current sensor is based on eddy current effect. When the sensor approaches a metal object, eddy currents are generated on the surface of the object. This eddy current interacts electromagnetically with the sensor’s measuring coil, causing a change in the coil’s electrical properties, such as impedance. Eddy current sensors measure these changes to infer the distance, displacement, thickness, or other relevant parameters between the metal object and the sensor.
Specifically, eddy current sensors typically contain a high-frequency oscillator and a measuring coil. The high-frequency oscillator generates a high-frequency magnetic field that induces eddy currents on the surface of a metal object when the sensor is near it. This eddy creates a reverse electromagnetic field that interacts with the sensor’s measuring coil, changing the inductance or impedance of the coil.
The size of the eddy current is related to the conductivity, permeability, shape, size of the metal object, and the distance between the sensor and the object. Therefore, by measuring the change in the electrical characteristics of the coil, the distance between the metal object and the sensor or other relevant parameters can be inferred.
Eddy current sensor has the advantages of high precision, fast response and non-contact measurement, so it is widely used in industrial automation, material testing, displacement measurement and other fields. They can be used to measure the thickness, displacement, vibration, speed and other parameters of metal objects, providing reliable measurement data for industrial control and automation.
