The 3500/91 EGD Communication Gateway module is a communication gateway module developed by Bently Nevada for the 3500 rack. This module provides a wide range of serial (e.g. RS232/RS422/RS485) and Ethernet TCP/IP communication capabilities, enabling integration of all rack monitoring values and status with process control and other automation systems.

Specifically, it supports multiple protocols, This includes the Modicon Modbus protocol (via serial communication), the Modbus/TCP protocol (serial Modbus variant for TCP/IP Ethernet communication), and the proprietary Bently Nevada protocol (for communication with 3500 rack configuration and data acquisition packages).

For Ethernet connections, it supports a 10BASE-T star configuration and uses RJ45 connections. In addition to the main Modbus register, this component also supports communication interfaces, communication protocols, and additional functions. The primary value Modbus register has been replaced by the configurable Modbus register utility, which can now provide the same functionality.

In addition, for energy consumption, the typical power of the Modbus RS232/RS422 I/O module is 5.0 watts, while the typical power of the Modbus RS485 I/O module is 5.6 watts. This module collects information from other modules in the rack, including current measurements with time stamps, module status, and current alert status. The exact data type returned depends on the channel configuration and module type.

In 3500 racks, the data acquisition rate for all modules will not be greater than 1 second, depending on the rack design. For controller applications, it provides integration with EGD protocol compatible controllers such as GE Mark* VIe controllers.
