IS420UCSBH1A REV.H 2 Controller and Switch

Part No.: IS420UCSBH1A
Manufacturer: General Electric
Country of Manufacture: United States(USA)
Product Type: UCSB Controller Module
Series: Mark VIe

IS420UCSBH1A is a UCSB Controller Module developed by GE. UCSB controllers are self-contained computers that execute application-specific control system logic. The UCSB controller does not host any application I/O, unlike traditional controllers that do. Furthermore, all I/O networks are connected to each controller, providing it with all input data. If a controller is powered down for maintenance or repair, the hardware and software architecture ensures that no single point of application input is lost.

Overview

Essential details:IS420UCSBH1A REV.H 2 Controller and Switch

The IS420UCSBH1A controller is the first of the UCSB controllers manufactured by General Electric as part of the Mark VIe Control Safety System Series. This controller is similar to the UCSC controller and while it does not have the same hardware the software needed to operate this controller is nearly identical. According to the GEH-6725 Mark VIe and Mark VIeS, Controls Equipment HazLoc Instruction Guide the IS420UCSBH1A controller is labeled as a Mark VIe, LS2100e, and EX2100e controller. There is also a specific microprocessor used with this controller, the microprocessor installed in this device is the 600 MHz EP80579 Intel Processor.

On page twenty-two of the GEH-6725 Instruction Guide, there is a small table that labels the electrical/power supply ratings needed to power the IS420UCSBH1A, the ratings are as follows, a minimum voltage of eighteen direct currents, with a maximum of thirty volts of direct current, the nominal power rating is twenty-four and twenty-eight volts of direct current. The maximum current rating used with this device is 1.5 ADC.

When being mounted there are several certifications that are required to mount the IS420UCSBH1A controller in hazardous and non-hazardous locations alike. For example, when mounted in ATEX Zone 2, Group IIC, the certification needed is UL DEMKO 12 ATEX 1114875X. All certifications regarding the controller being mounted in Class I, Zone 2, Group IIC, non-hazardous, and Class I, Division 2, Groups, A, B, C, and D are the same, the certification requirements for these locations are UL E207685.

Operation

  • The controller is pre-loaded with application-specific software. It is capable of running rungs or blocks. Minor changes to the control software can be made online without restarting the system.
  • The IEEE 1588 protocol is used to synchronize the clocks of the I/O packs and controllers to within 100 microseconds via the R, S, and T IONets. External data is transferred to and from the controller’s control system database via the R, S, and T IONets. Process inputs and outputs to I/O modules are included.
  • This also includes the following in a dual system:
    • The designated controller’s internal state values and initialization information
    • The status and synchronization information from both controllers
  • This also includes the following in a Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) system:
    • Internal state values for voting and status, as well as synchronization information from all three controllers
    • Data from the designated controller for initialization

IS420UCSBH1A Advantages

The following benefits are provided by UCSB controllers:

  • Single module
  • Built-in power supply
  • No need for jumper settings
  • No battery
  • No fan
  • Smaller panel footprint
  • Flash memory can be easily updated

The UCSB controller is installed in a panel and communicates with I/O packs via on-board I/O network (IONet) interfaces. IONet is a private special-purpose Ethernet that supports only Mark controls I/O modules and controllers.

Characteristics

  • Microprocessor: : 600 MHz Intel EP80579
  • Memory: 256 MB DDR2 SDRAM with error-correcting code (ECC), Flash-backed SRAM, NAND flash size is 2 gigabytes
  • Operating System: QNX Neutrino
  • Weight: 2.4 lbs

Mounting and Installation

  • The UCSB controller is housed in a single module that attaches to the panel sheet metal directly.
  • The UCSB controller should be mounted to the panel unobstructed vertical air flow through the fins.
