Espoo, Finland, April 10, 2024 / PRNewswire / — Qt Group (Nasdaq, Helsinki: QTCOM) and Qualcomm Technologies announced on April 9 that they are collaborating to simplify the development of advanced graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and software quality assurance for industrial Internet of Things devices.
Qt Group has partnered with Qualcomm to simplify user interface development for the Industrial Internet of Things
Qt’s cross-platform development tools combined with Qualcomm Technologies means iot manufacturers can dramatically reduce time to market for their devices.
2711-K6C20 Qualcomm Technologies, one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers, has long supplied processors for devices in industries such as smartphones, automobiles, extended reality and the Internet of Things. Porting the Qt Group platform to Qualcomm Technologies software significantly simplifies the process for software vendors to develop and test user interface (UI) solutions using Qualcomm Technologies’ advanced processors. This will also significantly improve the ease and speed of large-scale development of Systematized modules (SOMs) by hardware vendors. SoM is a microcomputer system equipped with off-the-shelf components that can be used to easily create embedded electronic devices, from robots to security cameras.
In addition to these UI capabilities when using QT-enabled Qualcomm Technologies processors, original device manufacturers have access to Qt Group’s intuitive, user-friendly software development and quality assurance tools, significantly lowering the manufacturing barrier for manufacturers.
“If you ignore the noise of technological innovation today, what will have the biggest impact on the end user? That’s the user experience, especially the user interface, “said Roger Mazzella, Senior Product Manager at Qt Group. “Qt Group has been proud to partner with Qualcomm Technologies in the automotive industry for many years. Now, we can extend the advantages of all the foundational work to the iot market, and Qualcomm Technologies is well suited to this market. Their high-performance processors can handle data-intensive communications while delivering the super-fast performance developers and end users expect.”
Juhapekka Niemi, Senior Vice President of Product Management at Qt Group, said: “The strength of Qt technology is that it has been used in 70 industries. We will provide out-of-the-box UI/UX development and quality assurance tools for iot hardware and software vendors. These vendors do not need to do any integration, and the ease of GUI development will greatly reduce the time to market for their products.”
2711-K6C20 By leveraging Qt’s development tools and framework, iot manufacturers can apply advanced 3D graphics capabilities to the UI of their devices, just with a more streamlined package. Other frameworks, such as game engines, also cater to high-fidelity graphics needs, but they often include features that are not required to create GUIs on iot devices. Because the Qt framework has features tailored to these iot devices, developers can build and run UIs on much less demanding hardware.
“Qualcomm Technologies believes strongly in building an industry ecosystem that enables manufacturers to leverage our chipsets to build superior hardware and software solutions for vertical markets,” said Manvinder Singh, vice president of iot Strategy and Partner solutions development at Qualcomm Technologies. This collaboration gives developers a ready-made solution on which they can build their own creative solutions.”
Qt Group’s design, development and quality assurance tools are designed to facilitate closer collaboration between developers and designers, streamlining workflows by allowing them to work simultaneously within the same framework. These tools are ideal for cross-platform development, especially for low-power and embedded devices.
