REF615C_D HCFDACADAND2BNN1XD Feeder Protection and Control
Product Description
3. Protection functions
The lED offers directional and non-directionalovercurrent and thermal overload protection aswell as directional and non-directional earth-faultprotection. Some standard configurations allowas an option admiltance-based, harmonics-basedor wattmetric-based earth-fault protection to beused in addition to directional earth-faultprotection, Further, the lED features sensitiveearth-fault protection, phase discontinuityprotection, transient/intermittent earth-faultprotection, overvoltage and undervoltageprotection, residual overvoltage protection,positive-sequence undervoltage and negative.sequence overvoltage protection. Frequencyprotection, including overfrequency, underfrequency and frequency rate-of-changeprotection, is offered in lEDs with standardconfigurations H and J. The lED also incorporatesoptional three-pole multi-shot auto-reclosefunctions for overhead line feeders.
Enhanced with optional hardware and software, the lED also features three light detectionchannels for arc fault protection of the circuitbreaker, busbar and cable compartment of metal-enclosed indoor switchgear.
The arc-fault protection sensor interface isavailable on the optional communication module.Fast tripping increases staff safety and securityand limits material damage in an arc fault situation.
4. Application
The feeder protection lED REF615 can besupplied either with directional or non-directionalearth-fault protection. Directional earth-faultprotection is mainly used in isolated neutral orcompensated networks, whereas non-directionalearth-fault protection is intended for directly orlow impedance earthed neutral networks. The lEDcan also be used for protection of ring-type andmeshed distribution networks as well of radialnetworks containing distributed power generation.
The standard configurations A and B offerdirectional earth-fault protection, if the outgoingfeeder is equipped with phase current
transformers, a core-balance current transformeland residual voltage measurement. The residualcurrent calculated from the phase currents can beused for double (cross country) earth-fault
protection. The lED further features transient/intermittent earth-fault protection. The standardconfigurations C and D offer non-directional earth.fault protection for outgoing feeders equippedwith phase current transformers. The residualcurrent for the earth-fault protection is derivedfrom the phase currents. When applicable, thecore-balance current transformers can be usedfor measuring the residual current, especiallywhen sensitive earth-fault protection is requiredThe standard configurations E and F offer directional earth-fault protection with phase voltage and residual voltage measurement.
Furthermore, the two standard configurations Eand Finclude current circuit supervision and fusefailure supervision for incoming feeders providedwith busbar voltage measurement. In addition tothe functionality of standard configuration E, thestandard configuration F offers directional overcurrent protection, overvoltage and undervoltage protection, positive-sequence undervoltage and negative-sequence overvoltage protection and residual voltage protection.
