Flexiv has recently entered into a partnership with BlackBerry QNX.
At the just-concluded IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, ICRA, Embedded World Germany in April, Automate, the largest industrial show in North America, and the Boston Robotics Summit, Both Fixi and BlackBerry QNX impressed the audience by demonstrating a combination of adaptive robots, QNX RTOS, haptic devices and ROS 2.
170PNT11020 At various shows, the demo on display at the QNX booth consisted of Rizon 4, an adaptive robot with industrial-grade force control capabilities, the haptic controller Haply Inverse 3, and the next-generation QNX® operating system 8.0.
BlackBerry QNX is known for its superior functional safety, network information security and reliability in real-time operating system (RTOS) and other basic software solutions. Based on the highly real-time, customizable and reliable nature of the QNX RTOS, industrial robotic arms respond immediately to user commands without delays or interruptions.

When combined with the overall force control performance of a non-night adaptive robot, the field demo can provide force perception data at a frequency of 1kHz, enabling excellent robot motion control and immediate response to user behavior. Flexiv RDK, a development kit developed by Fixi, not only integrates with QNX, but also provides the accompanying ROS 2 package, which allows users to see the real-time status of the demo in RVIZ.
Howard Huang, Business Director, North America, Flexiv, said: “The cooperation between Fixi and QNX and the integration of adaptive robots with QNX software is important to expand the operability of robots. We’re excited to see QNX select the Fixi Rizon 4 to showcase at shows like Automate and ICRA, and I look forward to more joint new applications in the future.” Our joint solution with QNX is just the beginning of a long-term collaboration that will help shape the future of the robotics industry.”

“Fexi’s Rizon 4 is an innovative robotic platform that leverages the capabilities of the QNX RTOS.” Grant Courville, Vice President of Product and Strategy at blackberry QNX, said: “Our co-robot demo was a huge success at Embedded World Germany and the Boston Robotics Summit because it demonstrated the benefits of hard real-time deterministic software through an interactive experience. The integration of Flexiv RDK, the robotics development kit, on QNX is also very impressive, making it easy to build robotics programs and attracting great interest from many system integrators and robotics software engineers.”
Courville added: “In demonstrating the combination of our hard real-time software with Rizon 4’s powerful hardware and software, consistent robot responsiveness and feedback control loops were critical, and the results were impressive.”
