Each input is opto-isolated from the active circuitry of the board to allow an inputvoltage range of from 10v DC to 50v Dc. The module is factory-wired with the on-board 12v Dc power supply connected to the positive input of each opto-isolator.Monitoring of relay contacts or switches (rated 12v or better) would simply requireconnecting the contacts (or switches) between the negative lead of the opto-isolatorand board ground (see Figure 2-3). When the switch or relay closes, the circuit will becomplete, and the digital input will be coupled across the opto-isolator. The diode onthe negative input line is provided to prevent damage to the opto-isolator from reversevoltage.
The voltage applied to an input (either from the on-board 12v DC supply or an externalvoltage source) will determine whether the data which is read from the channel is alogic zero or a logic one. A logic zero (low) is indicated whenever the input signal is0.8v Dc or less. A logic one (high) is indicated whenever the input signal is in therange 10V DC to 50v Dc. An input voltage between 0.8v DC and iov Dc will producean indeterminate data state and thus should not be used.
