ABB has introduced the REF 543 feeder terminal, an advanced medium voltage grid protection, control, measurement and monitoring solution. The REF 543 feeder terminal is designed to work with a variety of switching devices, including single-bus, dual-bus, and dual-machine systems, supporting multiple types of networks such as neutral ungrounded, arc suppression coil grounded, and partially grounded.
The main advantages of the REF 543 feeder terminal are its wide selection of protection functions and high flexibility of PLC programmable functions to meet a variety of application requirements. It has 25 switching inputs and 18 outlet relays, as well as flexible communication connectivity capabilities to meet all communication needs. In addition, the REF 543 offers a large number of PLC functions that allow for the integration of multiple automation and sequential logic control functions required for substation automation in a single unit, further enhancing its flexibility and utility in medium voltage grid applications.
The REF 543 feeder terminal has a variety of protection functions, such as non-directional and directional overcurrent protection, ground fault protection, overvoltage and undervoltage protection, and thermal overload protection.
In addition, it includes control functions such as local and remote control of switchgear, status indication, and interlocking between switchgear. The measurement functions cover current, voltage, frequency, power factor, active and reactive power and energy. The REF 543 also provides a range of communication interfaces that support various communication standards such as the SPA bus, LON bus, and IEC 61850 supported by SPA-ZC 400 and Profitbus DPV1 supported by SPA-ZC 302, ensuring communication compatibility with upper layer devices.
The design of the REF 543 feeder terminal takes into account the needs of different application scenarios, and its hardware configuration can select different digital input/output quantities according to needs. The main difference between REF 543, REF 541, and REF 545 feeder terminals is the number of digital inputs and outputs they provide. These feeder terminals integrate multiple functions, including protection, measurement, power quality, control, condition monitoring, general purpose, communication, and standard functions. Using the Relay Configuration Tool, users can configure these functional blocks based on the IEC 61131-3 standard.
The launch of the REF 543 feeder terminal marks another important advance for ABB in the field of medium voltage grid automation, providing users with a highly integrated and customizable solution to improve grid reliability and efficiency.
