ABB has introduced the REF620E_1G, an advanced feeder protection and measurement and control device designed for the protection, control, measurement and monitoring of public and industrial power distribution systems. The REF620E_1G device is suitable for radiant, ring and mesh distribution networks and provides overcurrent and ground fault protection for neutral ungrounded and resistance or impedance neutral grounded networks.
The device is available in a variety of configuration options, including single and dual bus configurations, as well as one or two circuit breakers and multiple switchgear configurations. The REF620E_1G supports a large number of manual and electric isolation switches and ground switches, and can increase the number of available I/ OS as required by ABB’s RIO600 remote I/O devices.
In terms of communication, the REF620E_1G supports the IEC61850 communication standard, including vertical and horizontal communication, support for GOOSE messages, and set-point tuning based on IEC61850-8-1. In addition, it supports DNP3, IEC 60870-5-103 and Modbus® protocols. To improve communication reliability, the REF620E_1G also offers redundant Ethernet interface options, including PRP or HSR protocols, and ring self-healing RSTP communication.
The REF620E_1G is part of ABB’s Relion® 620 series of protection and control devices, which are known for their functional scalability and pluggable design. These installations are designed to realize the full potential of the IEC 61850 standard for communication and interoperability of substation automation equipment.
ABB’s new product provides a compact and versatile solution for public and industrial power distribution systems with integrated protection, control, monitoring and management functions. Its key features include a wide range of protection and measurement and control functions for incoming or outgoing wires, a combination of highly sensitive and selective multi-frequency admittance ground protection, and advanced, fast short-circuit and ground fault location capabilities. In addition, the REF620E_1G supports IEC61850 Editions 1 and 2, including redundant HSR and PRP, GOOSE, and IEC61850-9-2.
The REF620E_1G further strengthens ABB’s leadership position in distribution automation, providing customers with more efficient and reliable power system protection solutions.
