GE Grid Solutions has introduced a new smart distribution protection device, the F650, designed to provide more efficient and flexible protection, control and automation solutions. Designed for distribution feeder protection and control applications, this unit offers high-speed protection and control for a variety of feeder management scenarios, including loop networks, dual or circuit breakers, and half circuit breaker configurations.
The F650 unit is equipped with an advanced Human machine interface (HMI), including a graphical LCD, programmable buttons, and easy keys for users to select Settings menus and submenus. Its modular drawer structure design greatly reduces the replacement time. At the same time, with IEEE 1588 (PTP), IRIG-B and SNTP time synchronization, event reporting, waveform capture and data logging, troubleshooting time and maintenance costs are significantly reduced.
The F650 device supports serial and Ethernet interfaces, as well as multiple communication protocols, simplifying system integration. Built-in IEC® 61850 protocol (and support for second edition), IEC 60870-5-103/104, IEC 62439/PRP/HSR, and IEEE 802.1D/RSTP ensure compatibility and interoperability with existing infrastructure.
In addition, the F650 features a variety of advanced features such as fault locator, fault and event loggers, high-resolution oscillations and data loggers, and programmable sampling rates. Its metering functions include voltage, current, frequency, active power, reactive power, power factor, active and reactive energy, etc.
The introduction of F650 not only improves the protection and control capabilities of the distribution network, but also provides strong hardware support for industrial automation and intelligent manufacturing, further promoting the development of smart grid technology.
