ABB’s Foxboro brand recently introduced a new field control processor, the FCP280 RH924YA. The processor is a key component of the EcoStruxure™ Foxboro DCS (Distributed Control System), bringing new technological breakthroughs in industrial automation with its superior performance and reliability.
The FCP280 RH924YA processor features a dual-core PowerPC processor that provides powerful data processing capabilities and the ability to quickly respond to complex control algorithms and tasks. It supports up to 128 compact or standard 200 series FBMS (Fieldbus modules), or up to 128 combinations of 100 series FBMS and 200 series FBMS without the need for a fieldbus communication module, which greatly simplifies system configuration. In addition, the FCP280 RH924YA features fault-tolerant operation, using two control modules to provide unique, patented fault-tolerant operation that significantly improves reliability relative to other process controllers.
The FCP280 RH924YA processor also supports self-hosting mode, enabling it to boot itself with an effective control database even when there is no host workstation, enhancing system independence and flexibility. The online upgrade feature makes it easier to maintain and upgrade equipment, and software upgrades can be performed without a shutdown process, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
The processor is also equipped with a liquid crystal display (LCD) capable of displaying letter errors and real-time roles and status for easy real-time monitoring and troubleshooting. A standard fiber or copper 100 Mbps Ethernet cable is connected to the Mesh control network system for a stable and reliable network connection.
The FCP280 RH924YA has applications in a wide range of areas including, but not limited to, refining and petrochemicals, upstream and midstream oil and gas, chemicals and specialty chemicals, power generation, metals, mining and minerals, water and wastewater treatment, food and beverage, life sciences and pharmaceuticals. The introduction of this processor further enriches ABB’s product line in industrial automation and is expected to play an important role in improving the performance and reliability of industrial control systems.
