On May 26, ABB B&R held an Innovation Day in Shanghai with the theme of “Enabling Machine Innovation and Development”. About 110 enterprises, engineering experts and media partners from printing, packaging, photovoltaic, semiconductor and other equipment manufacturing fields participated in the conference.
Analysis of high quality development and innovation of equipment industry
High-quality development is an industrial development policy that the government is vigorously advocating and promoting. Dr. Weirong Xiao, President of ABB B&R Greater China Region, gave an understanding from the perspective of equipment industry innovation, and shared multiple dimensions of high-quality development with the guests in a clear context. He believes that for the high-quality development of equipment enterprises, it is necessary to start from differentiated competitiveness, positive design and personalized innovation. To define the enterprise’s equipment research and development objectives with the user’s return on investment, rapid product to market, total cost of ownership, sustainable competitiveness as the orientation. On the implementation side, he pointed out that disruptive technologies like B&R Flexible delivery can solve the cost efficiency problem in personalization, while digital technologies are making machines smarter. Besides technology, service innovation is also a new demand. Only through these technological and service innovations can the manufacturing industry be better served.
As for innovation, Dr. Xiao Weirong also proposed that the innovation in the digital age is not only in those visible places, but also in those invisible places. Such as industry cognition, personnel training, industrial software, industrial processes, research and development and operational efficiency. Thus, he concludes, “digital intelligence, innovation in the intangible”.

At this Innovation Day, Luca Galluzzi, Chief Sales Officer of ABB headquarters in B&R, gave a presentation entitled “Shaping the Future of Machines Together”. He analyzed the continuous improvement of productivity, more flexible manufacturing and simpler operation of manufacturing industry under the conditions of consumer personalized demand, labor shortage and market uncertainty. To this end, B&R puts forward the idea of “adaptive manufacturing”, which forms a complete intelligent manufacturing system through intelligent perception, information collaboration, intelligent analysis, robot and intelligent delivery technology execution.
Luca Galluzzi said of the China strategy, “We will continue to increase the localization process in China. In the past, we have implemented local application development and training services. In the future, we will also deepen our investment in local product design and manufacturing, in China, for China, is our strategy – all in order to better adapt to the high speed of the Chinese market and the product and technology needs of local users.”
Innovate products and technologies, support machine development
B&r shared several innovative technologies on this Innovation Day. Dr. Robert Kickinger from ABB’s B&R headquarters brought innovative robotics technology from B&R. The robot is called a “machine-centric robot.” It integrates process equipment and robots in the same controller, HMI and network for better synchronous collaboration and response to high-speed application requirements.
B&r (China) Business development Manager Yao Yanlong explained how B&R technology ACOPOS 6D solves problems for personalized and mass customization, with simpler mechanical design, faster testing and verification, and a high efficiency state of continuous flow and balanced load, using the challenges of product assembly in multiple scenarios. And can adjust the production line freely for individual needs, in order to achieve high energy efficiency production. B&r Global Control product Manager Stefan Schoenegger described the new APC Mobile line for non-road machinery – how it can meet the needs of more intelligent construction machinery, agriculture and construction applications. The special working conditions of these fields, as well as the demands for intelligence, are all innovative design by B&R from hardware to software.
