On June 20 local time, under the witness of the two Prime ministers, Mr. Zheng Zhajie, Director of the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China, and Mr. Roland Busch, Chairman, President and CEO of Siemens AG, signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Development and Reform Commission of the People’s Republic of China and Siemens AG of the Federal Republic of Germany on Continued Cooperation in Berlin. In the next step, under the framework of the Memorandum, the two sides will jointly promote Siemens to strengthen cooperation with China and create new highlights of cooperation in digitalization and other fields.
In the presence of the two Prime ministers, Zheng Zhajie, Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, signed a memorandum of understanding on the continuation of cooperation with Siemens Chairman of the Board of Directors Charles Boleren.
“Siemens has been working with China for more than 150 years, and today’s renewal of the MOU marks a new stage in Siemens’ development in China.” “Going forward, we will cooperate with the NDRC and other partners in a wider range and at a deeper level with innovative technologies in the fields of digitalization and low-carbon development, so as to bring new impetus to the high-quality development of the Chinese economy,” said Mr Boleren.
Siemens’ cooperation with China can be traced back to 1872, when Siemens delivered the first pointer telegraph to China. In October 1985, Siemens signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding with the then Ministry of Machinery Industry of the People’s Republic of China to jointly promote the development of the machinery, electrical engineering and electronics industries, the first such cooperation agreement signed in China after the reform and opening up. Siemens and NDRC renewed this memorandum of cooperation twice in 2011 and 2016 respectively, and signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of digital technology innovation and application under the existing cooperation framework in 2017.
