The new NX helps users assess environmental impact during product development
Design oriented front-end simulation capabilities leverage the GPU for near-real-time design insights
Siemens Digital Industry Software has launched an updated version of its NX™ product engineering solution. As the flagship product in Siemens’ Xcelerator portfolio of solutions, NX software supports design, engineering and manufacturing for a wide range of applications in the aerospace, automotive and FMCG industries.
Dr. Ken Versprille, Executive Consultant at CIMdata, said: “This update of Siemens NX is focused on product sustainability. The complete workflow not only helps manufacturers meet the challenges of product complexity and continuous optimization, but also provides a new set of smart, sustainability-oriented tools to help manufacturers meet functional requirements while reducing environmental impact.”
Sustainability is a major concern in all industries today, with more than 80% of the environmental impacts associated with a product being determined at the product design stage. NX’s new Sustainability Impact Analysis feature helps assess environmental impact early in product development, delivering EN15804-based sustainability metrics through accurate 3D design data combined with an AI-driven material recommendation engine. Companies can calculate, assess and optimize the impact of design decisions and material choices based on data sets containing more than 30 environmental impacts and 3D design sustainability reports.
The Siemens Xcelerator portfolio of solutions provides the ability to integrate and connect to the broader enterprise network, enabling downstream reuse of the same data, and Siemens Teamcenter® product lifecycle management software extracts environmental objectives and requirements to help companies validate their designs against relevant requirements and environmental credits.
Power simulation to achieve “left shift”
With the increase of system complexity and the decrease of design resources, simulation in the design process has gained more favor. To take full advantage of simulation capabilities early in the design process, Siemens has added Performance Predictor to the new NX, delivering real-time simulation results in its main design tool by using graphics processing unit (GPU) hardware. After applying boundary and load conditions and specific materials, the part can be simulated in real time and the simulation results can be directly overlaid on the 3D model.
The technology can also be used for parameter-driven research, where the NX Design Space Explorer solution can be used to define and solve multi-parameter, goal-based optimization studies, significantly reducing time, and, once defined, the simulation data can be reused and extended in Simcenter™ software products. To perform more advanced simulations as the project progresses.
