The Deltmo-based Weidmuller Group has officially opened its new logistics center in Hesselberg-Hainisch. With the Weidmuller Distribution Center (WDC), the global electronic equipment and electrical connectivity company will further strengthen its sustainable strategy of localizing its industrial chain, while optimizing its logistics operations in Central Europe. The logistics center was put into operation in February 2023.
With the completion and opening of the WDC, WeidMuller successfully completed the largest single investment project in the company’s history to date. The new logistics center, not far from Eisenach, will cover a total area of approximately 72,000 square meters and will take about two years to complete. With WDC, WeidMuller will significantly optimize its logistics processes while improving their sustainability. This state-of-the-art logistics centre is located 10 km from the Thuringische Weidmuller GmbH (TWG) centre. It is largely automated, offering end-to-end digitalization and flexible networking of delivery and customer service. “The logistics requirements of the future will become more and more complex and variable. With the innovative and forward-looking design of the logistics center, we have already met many future customer needs, “says Volker Bibelhausen, Chief Technology Officer and spokesperson for the Board of Directors of Weidmuller. “In this way, we can provide better customer service and chart a more flexible and sustainable course for the future,” he added.

Sustainability and cutting-edge technology
During the design process for WDC, Weidmuller combined cutting-edge logistics technology with sustainable building components. In addition to partial roof greening, the center is also integrated with a powerful photovoltaic system and an energy-saving heat pump. Overall, the new logistics center meets the requirements of the company’s sustainable localization strategy: in the Thuringian center, WDC establishes a central transshipment point for WeidMuller’s products produced in Central Europe. Shorter transportation and delivery routes could significantly reduce carbon emissions in the future. In addition, the logistics center will create more than 80 new jobs. Dr. Sebastian Durst, Chief Operating Officer of Weidmuller, highlighted the cutting-edge technology of the new logistics center: “The combination of automation and digitalization in our new logistics center opens up endless possibilities for us to continue to provide high standards, high quality and efficient service. In the long term, we will revolutionize the logistics process.”
