AVEVA has partnered with Topsoe, a global leader in carbon reduction technology, to help it rapidly develop decarbonization solutions for the manufacture of green hydrogen and other carbon-neutral fuels.
Topsoe will rely on AVEVA Process Simulation to model its solid oxide electrolytic cells (SOECs) to optimize their design and develop control strategies.
Accelerate the development of global green hydrogen economy
Weightlifting if “hydrogen” to achieve rapid decarbonization
Rapid decarbonisation of all sectors is essential to achieve the global net zero emissions target, with heavy transport industries such as shipping and aviation, as well as carbon-intensive industries such as steel manufacturing and petrochemical production, often considered difficult to reduce.
How to solve the carbon reduction challenges in these industries? Finding carbon-free alternatives to fossil fuels is the first step.
Using Topsoe’s highly efficient SOEC electrolyzers, it is possible to produce the green hydrogen energy required by many carbon-intensive industries, thus achieving decarbonization. With its flexibility, open modeling capabilities and ease of use, AVEVA Process Simulation empowers Topsoe engineers to design and optimize their electrolyzers faster and more efficiently, thereby accelerating the energy transition.

Technology blessing gives hydrogen new power
Topsoe is a long-time customer of AVEVA and has been using AVEVA PRO/II Simulation (previously known as PRO/II) and AVEVA Dynamic Simulation (previously known as DYNSIM) for decades. Now, as the global push for net zero emissions stimulates the demand for green energy products, Topsoe now uses AVEVA Process Simulation to support its engineers in designing sustainable solutions.
Poul Georg Moses, Chief Technology Officer of Topsoe’s Power-to-X division, said: “Green hydrogen is essential for decarbonising industries that are not easily electrified, and we need to race against time if we are to achieve the global net zero emissions target. By building the world’s largest SOEC electrolyser production facility, which allows us to offer power multiconversion solutions based on green hydrogen technology on an industrial scale, Topsoe has been at the forefront of the industry. AVEVA Process Simulation is a revolutionary tool for us. With its dynamic simulation capabilities, we are breaking through bottlenecks and accelerating the development of solutions.”
Tobias Scheele, Senior Vice President of Software Products at AVEVA, said: “We are delighted to deepen our partnership with Topsoe as the power multi-conversion industry evolves. The success of the energy transition will depend on how quickly and at scale industries can deliver low-carbon solutions. AVEVA Process Simulation shorens engineering cycles, enables rapid innovation and reduces carbon emissions.”
Lisa Wee, Global Head of Sustainability at AVEVA, said: “AVEVA is committed to working with our customers to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all through technology. We recognize that the choices and actions made by the global industry during this decade will have an impact on current and future generations. We are excited to help accelerate the energy transition through our software and Topsoe’s innovative technology.”
