As a global leader in automation technology and software, Emerson is committed to driving sustainability and moving toward our goal of net-zero operations by 2030 and a net-zero value chain by 2045, based on 2021. As we drive our own and our suppliers’ carbon reduction efforts, we believe Emerson can do more for sustainability by bringing our technology solutions and expertise to support our customers’ energy transitions.
From power, energy, chemicals and metal processing to cold chain and waste management, Emerson’s proven technology, expertise and customer experience are critical to decarbonizing industries. With our extensive digital and automation expertise, we can help our customers meet their commitment to sustainable operations while reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency. According to the latest Emerson ESG report, released in June, approximately 70 percent of Emerson’s sales are now related to sustainability technologies that contribute to customers’ environmental sustainability in four strategic areas: decarbonization of energy sources, energy and emissions management, electrification and grid systems, and recycling and waste management.
Decarbonize energy sources
The long-term development of the energy system requires reliable, scalable and low-carbon energy supplies. The use of clean energy sources such as wind, solar, hydro, geothermal and nuclear power is growing, which will contribute to significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Replacing coal-fired power generation with natural gas remains a key strategy for reducing emissions in the near term. Innovation and investment in hydrogen, biofuels and biochemistry, and renewable natural gas are also accelerating.
The Emerson Plantwebâ„¢ digital ecosystem, a scalable portfolio of sensors, software and control technologies, is helping new energy companies balance production, energy and emissions to advance the commercialization of energy decarbonization solutions in low-carbon electricity, low-carbon fuels, and hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels. The Plantwebâ„¢ digital ecosystem is helping Neste expand sustainable aviation fuel production, supporting Neste to increase production at its Singapore refinery by up to 1.3 million tonnes by 2023.
Emerson’s wind automation solutions help three new wind farms in Shanxi Province operate reliably and efficiently, providing renewable energy to more than 35 million people in Beijing and other northern Chinese cities.
The world’s largest commercial vehicle fueling station has selected Emerson as a partner to provide a comprehensive automation solution for hydrogen production, transportation and consumption, and to develop commercially viable hydrogen charging models.
