In 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which calls on all countries to take action to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals over the next 15 years. With the deepening of global energy reform and scientific and technological revolution, how to achieve sustainable development through scientific and technological innovation has become the direction of energy and power enterprises and an urgent proposition to be solved.
In the face of the challenges and opportunities brought by sustainable development, ABB Electric China President Zhao Yongzhan said that ABB will base on the new development pattern, provide more new products, new technologies and new solutions for the sustainable development of the energy and power industry, and take practical actions to promote the whole society to achieve higher quality sustainable development.
CNG: Under the background of “dual carbon”, what deployment has ABB made in terms of sustainable development strategy to adapt to the new situation of energy reform and development?
ABB announced its sustainability strategy in 2020, which aims to empower a low-carbon society, protect natural resources, drive social progress, build a culture of integrity and transparency across the value chain, and commit to achieving carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030.
One is to enable a low-carbon society. ABB focuses on the two areas of electrification and automation, and has conducted a lot of research on digital and low-carbon technologies. We are committed to decarbonising our own operations by 2030 through three “100s”. In terms of clean energy utilization, ABB uses 100% of its electricity from renewable sources; In terms of electrification, ABB’s fleet is 100% electric; In terms of energy efficiency optimization, the company deploys 100% of the energy management system to achieve comprehensive energy efficiency improvements. At present, ABB Electric has built “Zero Emission Vision” demonstration bases in Beijing, Xiamen and Xinhui, four factories have been awarded national green factories, and six enterprises have been awarded carbon neutral certificates.
The second is to protect natural resources. As a listed company, ABB has a responsibility to help its upstream and downstream suppliers achieve sustainable development. ABB Electric focuses on green factories, green industrial parks, green supply chain and green product design to promote comprehensive energy conservation and emission reduction. As an enabler of the industry, develop and provide intelligent and efficient innovative technologies and solutions, and build a low-carbon ecosystem with upstream and downstream suppliers.
The third is to promote social progress. ABB helps customers and partners grow sustainably through products and solutions. In recent years, ABB has actively explored the product structure and function design, selected green materials, adopted innovative ecological design, and optimized the resource and environmental issues in all aspects. ABB regards green design as the background color of sustainable development, and actively develops digital twins to build smart power systems.
