Fouse participated in the 35th Shanghai Mayor’s International Entrepreneur Advisory Conference to share insights on technology leading transformational development
To support Shanghai in further harnessing the power of science and technology in the scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, and stimulating the momentum of innovation
We will advocate collaborative innovation, identify new opportunities and open up new tracks in the fields of digital economy, meta-universe, intelligent terminals and green and low-carbon
On October 15, ABB Group Chairman Peter Fusai was invited to attend the 35th Shanghai Mayor’s International Entrepreneur Consultation Conference, where he discussed and exchanged visions with Shanghai government leaders and 30 international entrepreneurs from 12 countries on “Change and new opportunities: Building a more dynamic and resilient international metropolis”. Before the meeting, Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Fu Sai.
“Shanghai is one of the leading cities in innovation-driven development,” said ABB Group Chairman Thomas Fouse. I appreciate Shanghai’s clear proposal to accelerate the development of key industries such as digital economy, meta-universe, smart terminals and green and low-carbon, which are also key areas of ABB’s development.
Shanghai has taken the lead in incorporating the “meta-universe” into its long-term planning. In particular, Fouse highlighted the huge potential of the industrial metaverse, which will facilitate the convergence of the digital and physical worlds and enable innovative applications by integrating technologies such as digital twins, machine learning, iot, mixed reality and 5G.
Artificial intelligence is the key technology to unleash the power of the meta-universe. The insights provided by AI can be used to optimize industrial processes, thereby increasing efficiency and productivity. Ai can also make robots easier to use, reduce application barriers, and expand new applications of robots in various industries.
In China and many places around the world, ABB has applied the above technology to many scenarios, such as using robots equipped with artificial intelligence technology for quality inspection to achieve higher accuracy; Using augmented reality technology to optimize the design of robot workstation; And upgrade traditional production lines to automated intelligent production lines through human-machine collaboration.
We see a huge demand from Chinese companies for advanced manufacturing, which is a big guarantee for our long-term investment in China. We opened a new robotic gigafactory in Shanghai and a new R&D center dedicated to driving open innovation in artificial intelligence, digitalization and software.
The development of new technologies, while bringing new opportunities, also places new demands on the skills and training needed to enable them. This will require concerted efforts by governments, businesses and schools to narrow the skills gap and nurture new types of talent for the future. In China, ABB has long-term partnerships with universities and vocational schools to help train teachers, build laboratories, and organize innovation competitions to support the growth of tomorrow’s outstanding engineers and new, interdisciplinary engineering talents.
Collaboration is essential for innovation. The China International Import Expo and the China International Industry Expo held annually in Shanghai provide important platforms for promoting cross-border cooperation and exploring collaborative innovation. Since 2018, ABB has actively participated in all previous CIIE. At the upcoming 6th CIIE, ABB will showcase more than 50 innovative products and digital solutions in the fields of smart energy, smart manufacturing, smart city and green transportation in the technical equipment area.
