It is reported that carbon fiber motor rotor manufacturer “Mosen Technology” recently completed tens of millions of yuan angel round financing, funded solely by Atomic Venture Capital. The funding will be used to expand research and development production.
Founded in 2018, Mosen Technology focuses on the forward research and development of carbon fiber components, and now has the design, simulation, development, production and testing capabilities of carbon fiber high-speed permanent magnet motor rotors and their carbon fiber components. The two core products of Mossen Technology include carbon fiber high-speed rotors and carbon fiber brushes.
Carbon fiber is a kind of inorganic polymer material, the carbon content is usually more than 90%, its macroscopic physical characteristics show significant anisotropy. Using viscose, asphalt, phenolic, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl chloride, especially polyacrylonitrile fiber as the precursor, pre-oxidized in the air below 300℃, and then carbonized at high temperature under the protection of inert gas, and then made by surface treatment and other processes. Carbon fiber is often used as reinforcement material and resin, metal, ceramics and other performance composite materials.
In fact, the process of winding carbon fiber rotors has long been used in high-speed rotating machinery, such as turbines and compressors. Usually, this type of motor is a surface mounted permanent magnet motor, as shown in the figure below. The cyan arc is a permanent magnet located on the surface of the rotor core. To prevent the magnet from flying away at high speed, the entire rotor is encased in a thin-walled cylinder (black in the image), which can be made of a variety of materials. For example, the use of titanium alloy sheath, but because titanium alloy is a metal, it will produce additional high-frequency eddy current resulting in loss; Carbon fiber composites have a higher strength-to-weight ratio than titanium alloys.
Mosen Technology is the first forward R & D supplier of carbon fiber high-speed permanent magnet motor rotor structure in China. The founding team took the lead in R & D work as early as 2017, and the company broke through the key technology – lossless winding under ultra-high tension strength. It has a full range of technical capabilities from carbon fiber materials, structural design, electromagnetic design, molding and assembly process, equipment manufacturing and inspection and testing.
In terms of customers, at present, the carbon fiber rotor products of Mosen Technology have been purchased in bulk by Gree Equipment, Jiangte Electric, CLP 21 and other enterprises, and closely cooperate with more than 20 Oems and Tier1 suppliers to carry out the research and development of carbon fiber rotor of high-speed permanent magnet motor for new energy vehicles, and have completed multi-round design simulation calculation, sample delivery and testing, and obtained a number of points.
Dr. Guo Jinhai, the founder of Mossen Technology, graduated from Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, under the guidance of China’s top experts in the field of carbon fiber, doctoral supervisor of Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, representative of the National People’s Congress Lu Chunxiang, engaged in domestic carbon fiber preparation technology and evaluation system research for many years, after joining China Aerospace Science and Technology Group Shanghai Aerospace Technology Research Institute, Responsible for all kinds of spacecraft carbon fiber products technology research, deeply involved in China’s lunar exploration project, space station, Mars exploration program and other major projects.
After more than ten years of accumulation, Dr. Guo has a unique understanding and grasp of the manufacturing of carbon fiber, the black gold of the industry, and the application technology in the field of “mechanothermal electromagnetism”. In 2017, Dr. Guo, as a technical expert, participated in the development of the first megawatt carbon fiber high-speed rotor in China, and successfully explored the advantages of high strength, high efficiency, lightweight and other advantages of carbon fiber high-speed rotor in the field of electric drive and energy.
