From 8 to 10 November 2022, at the SPS International Fair for Intelligent Production Solutions in Nuremberg, Pilz will focus on automation solutions covering safety and industrial information security in plants and machinery under the theme “Safe and reliable”.
Secure and economical control solutions
As the heart of plants and machines in efficient and flexible automation projects, safety controllers must manage a wide range of functions in a safe, reliable and performance-oriented manner. In Nuremberg, we will be presenting the latest safe and economical solution for small machines in the PNOZmulti 2 series of small controllers: just 22.5 mm wide, the extremely narrow stand-alone base unit PNOZ mC0 has the structural characteristics of a safety relay and is as powerful as a configurable safety controller. In addition, the secure key manager on the new self-contained base unit encrypts equipment data and configurations, ensuring industrial information security.
Secure access: Streamlined, intelligent key management
When access management issues arise, a higher level of security is required: intuitive operating systems where only authorized people can access applications are essential for closed machines and complex plants with hazardous areas. At its booth, Pilz demonstrated how to support users with digital locking/tagging. The “key in the pocket” prevents the operator from arbitrarily restarting the machine during maintenance. One or more users authenticate on the card reader unit PITreader using the RFID transponder key. Each person is assigned a separate security ID, which is centrally stored in the security controller. After the maintenance work is completed, all personnel will exit and the security ID entry will be removed from the security list. This prevents the machine from being tampered with and prevents the operator from accidentally restarting.
Mobile security – Industrial information security is now also possible
Safety and security must not stop in mobile applications; The capacity of logistics must be optimally balanced with safety as much as possible – whether using track-guided vehicles or free-navigating AGVs. At the show, Pilz will present its new portfolio of solutions for the protection of AGVs: These include secure area monitoring for collision protection of humans and AGVs using secure laser scanners PSENscan, modular security controllers PNOZmulti 2 and myPNOZ, and industrial firewall security Bridges, which now offer tamper-proof functionality for mobile applications for the first time, so security is now “in the game” too!
More flexible shielding methods
Shielding enables materials to be transported into and out of dangerous areas during production, so it ensures the smooth progress of the production process. On the security light curtain PSENopt II, the shielding function can now be configured with complete flexibility. At the SPS show, Pilz will be presenting new shielding strips, which are mounted horizontally on the PSENopt II safety light curtain. Through the fine grid setup, the sensor on the shield strip can be completely free to be positioned individually. As a result, users can configure the most diverse protected areas – using L-shaped, T-shaped, and X-shaped shields – and perform “their” requirements at any time. By using shielding strips, production processes in the packaging industry, and even logistics, can be designed to be more efficient, thus avoiding unnecessary downtime.
