In the era of uncertainty is the norm, how should an industry, a company answer the transformation issue?
Today in Shanghai, Dr. Xiao Song, President and CEO of Siemens Greater China, delivered a keynote speech at the German-Chinese Economic Summit 2023 (Xceleration Days 2023) entitled “Accelerating Industrial transformation with Digitalization and low-carbon ‘two-wheel drive'”, sharing unique insights on the “greatest certainty” of the future development of the industry.
The German-China Economic Summit, organized by the German Association of Overseas Chambers of Commerce Greater China, brought together nearly 1,000 business leaders from China and Germany to discuss in depth important topics such as innovation, investment, trade and sustainable development.
Summary of Dr. Xiao Song’s views
Openness can bring development and prosperity!
From the first pointer telegraph to the first tram, Siemens has been rooted in China for more than 150 years, constantly leading technological innovation, becoming a trusted partner of China’s economic development, and even a bridge connecting China and the world.
Forty-five years ago, Siemens held its first Electronics and Electrical Technology Expo in Shanghai, attracting nearly 40,000 enthusiastic visitors. Soon after, China announced its reform and opening up.
Forty-five years later, at this very moment, Siemens is participating in the China International Import Expo, a global economic and trade event. The cutting-edge technologies and innovations demonstrated by Siemens have attracted wide attention from all walks of life in the industry.
Along the way, Siemens has benefited a lot from China’s opening up process. We firmly believe that openness can bring development and prosperity!
We are pleased to see that China is continuing to promote high-level opening-up and has promulgated relevant policies to further improve the environment for foreign investment. We look forward to seeing the practical implementation of these policies in various industries.
“Two-wheel drive” accelerates industrial transformation
Today, in the face of multiple overlapping uncertainties, we need to think: how to deal with future challenges and opportunities? How can we transform industries to improve productivity, resilience and sustainability?
In Siemens’ view, digital and low-carbon “two-wheel drive” is a structural opportunity for enterprise transformation and upgrading, which is also the biggest certainty in the uncertainty.
Two years ago, Siemens launched the “Zero Carbon Pioneer Program” in China, which not only continuously promotes the energy conservation and carbon reduction of its own operations, but also aims to help more than 500 key suppliers and more than 10,000 customers accelerate the green and low-carbon transition by 2025.
The Siemens Nanjing Native digital factory, which will be put into operation in June 2022, is a beneficial practice in the integration of digitalization and low-carbon development. The new plant has increased production efficiency by 20%, reduced time to market by nearly 20%, and reduced carbon emissions by more than 3,300 tons per year.
In addition, customers and supplier partners such as Hesteel Group, Swire Coca-Cola and Datong Gear have also achieved win-win economic and environmental benefits with the help of Siemens technology.
In addition to the leaders, the transformation of smes is equally significant. There are nearly 50 million smes in China, but 80% of them are still in the initial exploration stage of digital transformation due to a lack of strategy, technology, capital and talent.
Siemens Xcelerator, an open digital business platform, empowers companies of all sizes and industries to make their digital transformation easier, faster and more scalable.

Siemens Xcelerator eco-partner “Star Project”.
In the past year, the platform has grown rapidly in various aspects such as solutions, registered users and ecological partners, and has become a new force to promote industrial transformation.
We sincerely welcome Chinese and German companies to join the open ecosystem of Siemens Xcelerator. Siemens Xcelerator does not belong only to Siemens, but to the entire industrial ecosystem!
In this day and age, no country or organization can achieve transformation alone. We need to join hands to release the unlimited potential of digitalization and low-carbon, sharing, creating and win-win!
