• Groupe Renault is expanding electric vehicle motor assembly lines and body-in-white production facilities.
• This summer, ABB completed a new model introduction project for Renault to help improve production flexibility
• Renault is being supported by ABB Robotics’ products, software and expertise in its ongoing transition to sustainable mobility.
As a long-term partner, ABB is helping Groupe Renault, as an electric vehicle manufacturer, automate its production network in several key markets by providing advanced robotics. In the past 24 months, ABB has completed the delivery of the majority of the 160 large industrial robot orders. Financial details of the order were not disclosed.
ABB Robotics’ automation solutions will help increase production capacity at Groupe Renault’s advanced electric motor assembly lines in Cleon and Douai, France. At its Douai plant, ABB technology will also help it produce the next generation of electric vehicles using a new advanced body-in-white facility.
This summer, the ABB Body in White team went to Renault’s electric vehicle core plant in Douai to provide high-quality integration solutions for new models, including floors, side walls and door covers. In the face of the challenges of high difficulty and fast pace of transformation, ABB, on the premise of ensuring the normal production of the production models, relying on rich experience and the spirit of due diligence, successfully upgraded the original production line, so that its production efficiency reached the highest standards in the industry, and implemented the flexible introduction of the third model and its variant models, helping Renault to flexibly respond to market changes and gain high recognition.
Marscon, President of ABB Robotics, said: “ABB is proud to have worked with Groupe Renault for more than 20 years and is delighted to once again support them in the electrification and automation of their product lines. Groupe Renault is a pioneer in the electric vehicle market and has launched many successful models such as the Renault Zoe. With ABB’s expertise in flexible manufacturing, we look forward to building on these successes as we journey together towards a sustainable transportation future.”
ABB’s technology supports Groupe Renault’s “Renaulution” strategy to achieve sustainable profitability, strengthens ABB’s position as one of Groupe Renault’s largest suppliers of electric vehicle manufacturing technology, and highlights the importance of ABB’s technologies and solutions across the entire production process.
In addition to its large industrial robot portfolio, ABB also offers SafeMove software. The software enables safe monitoring of robot movements, enabling leaner automation units and closer collaboration. It offers integrated expertise for complex processes, including motor winding, balancing and testing. In addition, it supports more than 50 additional software applications in ABB’s rich catalog.
