According to CNMO, Samsung has postponed the launch of GEMS Hip, a wearable walking assistance robot that was scheduled to be launched in August, until the end of the year.
It is reported that the reason for the delay is that Samsung needs time to further improve the completion of the product and thoroughly review the certification and marketing strategy. The product is expected to be released in Korea and the United States at the end of this year.
GEMS Hip is Samsung’s first wearable robot unveiled at CES 2019. The robot can be worn on bone joints, and when walking, it can provide the wearer with more than 20% of the walking power, and the walking speed can be increased by 10%. The robot is also certified to the international standard ISO 13482, which guarantees safety.
In addition, Samsung has expanded the use of auxiliary robots to include sports training and medical treatment. For example, in terms of sports training, we cooperate with fitness specialized companies to let users wear robots to exercise and achieve the effect of personal training (PT), and in terms of medical treatment, it can be used for users’ rehabilitation. However, due to the current high cost, it is temporarily unable to be used in the mass market, and Samsung is expected to launch high price marketing for this.
At present, Samsung may be committed to the North American market, where the wearable robot industry is larger. The US wearable robot market has grown by 21% annually since 2016, making it the largest wearable robot market in the world today.
