The heating process is an essential part of some industrial production processes, metal heat treatment, glass melting, food baking, grain drying, fiber hair removal, baking oven paint and other applications rely on the heating process.
Industrial burners with gas/liquid as fuel are the mainstream equipment used in the heating process today. The safety of industrial burners is related to the reliability, efficiency and stability of the entire production process, which can not be improper!
European standards relating to industrial burners
European standard EN 746-2 specifies the safety requirements for combustion and fuel handling systems, which need to meet at least the following three points in order to prevent accidents:
• Prevent unintentional release of unburned fuel
• The correct ignition time of the furnace
• Shut down fuel supply in case of related failure
In addition, in Europe, there are other standards for industrial burners with relevant safety requirements, such as:
DIN EN 298:2012-11 Automatic combustion control systems for burners and appliances burning gas or liquid fuels
DIN EN 50156-1:20116-03 Electrical equipment for combustion furnaces and auxiliary equipment – Part 1: Requirements for application design and installation
DIN EN 50156-2:20116-03 Electrical equipment for combustion furnaces and auxiliary equipment – Part 2: Requirements for design, development and type approval of safety equipment and subsystems
Safety “guardian” of Industrial burners
The PNOZmulti Programmable modular safety system is one of PILZ’s most popular safety control products. In this series, there are safety modules specifically for industrial burner control, which can be described as the “artifact” of industrial burner safety monitoring.
A single PNOZmulti system can control up to 12 industrial burners at the same time, and is suitable for oil/gas burners with direct/indirect ignition of the main burner (with combined flame monitoring/independent flame monitoring) and direct/indirect ignition of the secondary burner (with combined flame monitoring/independent flame monitoring).
The accompanying software tool, PNOZmulti Configurator, provides a TUV-certified “Burner Management” function block for safe monitoring of safety steps, combustion-supporting air pressure, ignition signals, flame status, external mixing controllers, and sealing properties. At the same time, the safety valve, ignition valve, exhaust valve, igniter and blower of the burner can be safely controlled. The safety level is up to EN ISO 13849-1 PL e Cat.4 and IEC 61508 SIL CL 3.
The basic module PNOZ m B1 Burner(772102) is specially developed for industrial burner applications based on EN 298, EN 50156, NFPA 85, NFPA 86, UL 60730 and has CE, TUV, cUL listed certificates. Its right side can be expanded up to 12 I/O modules, in addition to the safe monitoring of burner management related functions, but also to monitor other safety functions, such as the emergency stop button on the device, safety door, safety light curtain, etc., users only need this set of system, you can achieve the safety monitoring of the entire burner, the application is very flexible.
In addition, the special safety I/O expansion module PNOZ m EF 4DI4DORD (772145) integrates a different type of safety relay output, which is particularly suitable for controlling the safety valve of the furnace.
The PNOZmulti programmable modular safety system is suitable for applications where multiple industrial burners need to be controlled at the same time. It is a cost-effective safety control for burner management, and because it can also integrate other general safety functions, it makes safety applications in the field more flexible and complete.
