5G technology helps’ smart manufacturing in China ‘
At present, the development of intelligent manufacturing in China has put forward higher and higher requirements for the intelligent degree of robots and the speed of data transmission. The outside world is also more curious, why in recent years, the intelligent robot industry ushered in explosive growth? Among them, the help of 5G is indispensable. With the arrival of the third year of 5G commercial use, in the context of the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, the continuous improvement of 5G infrastructure has laid the technical foundation for the development of intelligent robots.
Communications industry experts said that an important sign of the 5G era is to expand from the consumer field to the industrial field, which will enable the manufacturing industry to develop to higher quality. 5G millimeter wave enriches the application scenarios of robots, and with large bandwidth and low delay, greatly reduces the networking difficulty and access difficulty in harsh environments such as complex factories and mountain forests. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, there are 1.6 million 5G base stations in China, and the number of 5G terminal connections exceeds 400 million, covering many areas of life such as transportation, medical care, education and cultural tourism.
In Dongguan Huawei Songshan Lake Park, a smartphone production line based on 5G private network has been rolled out. The production equipment is installed with 5G industrial Internet, and the “braid” of the traditional wired network is cut off through the interconnection of 5G network equipment, and wireless data collection, AI personnel action recognition, and AI high-definition visual inspection are realized, covering the whole process of 3C manufacturing. This is a fully connected smart factory with full coverage of 5G network created by Guangdong Mobile and Huawei, and a new benchmark for promoting the digital transformation of intelligent manufacturing in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area based on 5G industrial private network.
5G automatic monitoring, assembly, product quality inspection, AR inspection… Inside the factory, robots perform various tasks smoothly, and production workers supervise operations remotely. Through 5G connectivity, production workers and robots work side by side, greatly improving the efficiency of production lines. In addition, the AI edge detection application achieved by 5G+ machine vision technology completes the automatic inspection of the defect points, and the inspection results no longer need to be manually recorded, and are directly saved by means of pictures, reducing a lot of repetitive labor, improving the inspection efficiency by more than 30%, changing the original state of people staring at the machine and people staring at the production capacity, and taking the first step of “unmanned” production monitoring.
In Zhuhai, China Unicom and Gree jointly built 5G+ smart factory, which increased management efficiency by more than 10%, increased job accuracy by 30%, reduced response time of control scheduling system by 50%, and saved production cost by more than 15 million yuan annually. In the inspection process that traditionally relies on manual work, Gree applies 5G+AI vision technology, combined with the self-developed robot arm, to achieve rapid detection positioning, automatic parameter access, and intelligent determination of results, which has been applied to more than 10 inspection links such as the appearance of air conditioning packaging, compressor sequence, automatic electrical safety, etc., saving quality inspection costs of more than 1.2 million yuan/year. In order to standardize and optimize the processing actions of workers, China Unicom uses 5G+AI+ big data technology to conduct real-time standardized comparison and rapid analysis of the processing actions, and promote the optimization and upgrading of the production line process under the analysis of big data, and the production line transformation cycle is shortened by more than 2 days.
The reporter learned from the Guangdong Provincial Communications Administration that Guangdong plans to add 50,000 5G base stations this year, and it is expected that by 2025, the number of 5G base stations in Guangdong will reach 250,000. Industry insiders generally believe that 5G technology, with its higher speed and support for more terminal access, will greatly improve the application performance of industrial robots and promote the transformation from “Made in China” to “made in China”. The global consulting firm McKinsey predicts that by 2025, the application of robots in the manufacturing service industry will create an output value of 1.7 trillion to 4.5 trillion US dollars.
