Offshore wind power presents both opportunities and challenges
Compared with onshore wind power, offshore wind power is rich in resources, higher power generation utilization hours, does not occupy land resources, close to the power load center and other characteristics, is becoming a new “gladiatorial arena” in the wind power industry. “China’s offshore wind power has encountered unprecedented development opportunities.” Said Cao Zhigang, executive vice president of Goldwind Technology Co., LTD.
Ben Backwell expects 20G of new wind power to be installed in 2019, and offshore wind is a major driver of wind power growth, accounting for about 20% of new installations. Wei Hui, head of offshore solutions at Vision Energy Co., LTD., expects China’s offshore wind capacity to reach 7GW by the end of this year.
Qin Haiyan said that offshore wind power involves many cutting-edge technologies in high-end equipment manufacturing, which will drive China to make breakthroughs in high-end bearings, gear boxes and high-power generators. At the same time, forward-looking work such as ocean wind measurement, ocean foundation, ocean construction and professional ship facilities research will also be carried out with the development of offshore wind power technology.
At this exhibition, Goldwind Technology has brought a complete set of integrated design scheme for offshore wind turbine support structure: iDO. The scheme has the characteristics of accurate calculation and fast calculation speed, which is mainly used to improve the design level of the support structure of domestic offshore wind turbines and effectively reduce the cost of KWH.
However, China’s offshore wind power is in the initial stage of scale, and how to develop in the future is still in the groping process. “Rapid development is good, but the uncertainty has increased accordingly,” said Liu Di, executive vice president of the offshore wind branch of the China Ocean Engineering Consulting Association.
“The main large component failures of offshore units occur in blades, high-speed gear boxes, box transformers, etc. Now most of the offshore wind turbines have just been installed, and the reliability needs to be further verified.” Liu Di pointed out that at present, the remote failure and early warning ability of offshore wind turbines is insufficient, and the level of intelligent operation and maintenance is not high, which are problems that need to be solved.
