On February 25th, the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) released the 49th Statistical Report on the Development of China’s Internet in Beijing (hereinafter referred to as the “Report”). The report focuses on six aspects, including internet infrastructure construction, the scale and structure of internet users, internet applications, industrial internet, internet government services, and internet security, aiming to comprehensively reflect the overall development of China’s internet in 2021 through multi angle and all-round data presentation.
Positive progress made in industrial internet
Huang Qingqing, vice president of the Internet Society of China, said that 2021 is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, the first year of the 14th Five Year Plan, and a critical period for building a network power and a digital China and promoting high-quality development of the information and communication industry. As a strategic, fundamental, and leading industry supporting economic and social development, the information and communication industry has achieved leapfrog development in recent years. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued the “14th Five Year Plan” for the development of the information and communication industry, providing a solid guarantee for promoting high-quality development of the industry. The 49th report released by CNNIC shows that China’s information and communication network construction is steadily advancing, and the industrial internet has made positive progress.
One is to achieve leapfrog development in the information and communication industry, providing strong new momentum for economic and social development. The number of mobile phone base stations continues to grow, and the construction of 5G networks is steadily advancing. As of December 2021, the total number of mobile phone base stations in China reached 9.96 million, with a cumulative total of 1.425 million 5G base stations built and opened. The total number of new 5G base stations added throughout the year reached 654000. The scale of mobile phone users is steadily increasing, and the scale of 5G users is rapidly expanding. As of December 2021, the total number of mobile phone users reached 1.643 billion, including 355 million 5G mobile phone users. The number of fixed broadband access users is steadily increasing, and the number of gigabit users is steadily increasing. As of December 2021, the total number of fixed internet broadband access users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 536 million, a net increase of 52.24 million compared to the end of the previous year. Among them, the number of fixed internet broadband access users with access speeds of 1000Mbps and above reached 34.56 million, a net increase of 28.16 million compared to the end of the previous year.
Secondly, the development of China’s industrial internet is steadily advancing, and the application of “5G+industrial internet” is deepening. The network foundation, platform hub, data elements, and security guarantee role of the industrial internet have further emerged. The construction of network system is constantly advancing, basic telecommunications enterprises are accelerating the construction of external networks, industrial enterprises are promoting the transformation and upgrading of internal networks, and the top five national nodes have been built and operated stably; The depth and scope of the platform system are constantly expanding, with over 150 industrial internet platforms having national influence and a total of over 76 million sets of access devices; The initial results of data aggregation and empowerment have been achieved, and the National Industrial Internet Big Data Center has formed a systematic layout covering the Beijing Tianjin Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and Chengdu Chongqing dual city economic circle; The security system’s guarantee capability is constantly improving, the top-level design is constantly improving, and threat monitoring and information notification disposal are constantly strengthening. The “5G+Industrial Internet” is accelerating the construction of new infrastructure, application models, and industrial ecology that are deeply integrated with the industrial economy. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology promotes relevant units to draw on the 20 typical scenarios and 10 key industry application practices of the two batches of “5G+Industrial Internet” that have been released, closely follow the characteristics and needs of the industry, explore more application scenarios, and promote the deep integration of “5G+Industrial Internet” with the real economy. At present, significant application results have been achieved in industries such as electronic equipment manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, steel, mining, and power, playing a greater role in promoting the development of China’s digital economy.
