From April 16 to 18, the 2024 Global 6G Technology Conference, sponsored by the Future Mobile Communication Forum and Zijinshan Laboratory, was held in Nanjing under the guidance of the National 6G Technology Research and Development Promotion Working Group and the overall expert group.
In June 2023, the International Telecommunication Union issued the “IMT Framework and overall Objectives for 2030 and Future Development Proposal”, and in March 2024, the 3GPP 6G standardization schedule was determined, marking a new chapter in 6G research and development. With the theme of “Innovation Foresees the future of 6G”, the conference aims to explore the future blueprint of 6G technology and business, guided by the ITU 6G vision, and promote global consensus before the launch of 6G standards.
Xia Xinmin, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, Deng Zhiyi, Standing Committee Member and Vice Mayor of Nanjing Municipal Committee, Qiu Gang, Deputy Director of Frontier Technology Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Wu Hequan, director of the Advisory Committee of the conference and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended and addressed the opening ceremony held on the 17th. Deng Zhiyi pointed out that Nanjing will rely on the Zijinshan Laboratory innovation source function, high-quality planning and construction of Zijinshan Science and Technology City, aiming at 6G mobile communication and other advantages of continuous breakthroughs, accelerate the cultivation of independent and controllable network communication and security world-class industrial clusters. To seize the SA920N commanding heights of technology, support Zijinshan Laboratory to carry out original and forward-looking research around 6G, build an independent and controllable 6G core device support system, and consolidate and enhance the competitive advantage and leading position of the information and communication industry; Foster new growth drivers, establish a sound mechanism for scientific and technological achievements to “lay eggs along the way”, accelerate the transformation of 6G technology research and development results, and continue to gather upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain such as chips, communications equipment, and cybersecurity. To create a good industrial ecology, to create a national artificial intelligence innovation and application pilot zone as the traction, to build a perfect computing infrastructure system, to comprehensively expand 6G application scenarios, and to promote the early realization of “all things intelligent, digital twins” in communication technology.
Qiu Gang pointed out that the current cutting-edge research with 6G as the core and global cooperation will not only bring a new round of infrastructure upgrading, but also bring new opportunities and provide new momentum for a new round of scientific and technological revolution and the development of the digital economy. 6G as a core component of the new generation of digital infrastructure, will support the future of mobile communications, the future of mobile information society intelligent new changes, China has always attached great importance to the development of 6G, the “14th Five-Year Plan” and the 2035 vision target outline, clearly put forward the layout of 6G basic network basic reserve in advance. With forward-looking vision and practical actions, the Chinese government continues to promote important breakthroughs in 6G technology, and we are willing to continue to uphold the concept of openness and cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win, with a more open attitude and more pragmatic measures, relying on China’s advantages in the field of mobile communications, and join hands with international counterparts to jointly accelerate the breakthrough of 6G key core technologies.
Wu Hequan pointed out in his speech that 6G needs to be able to meet the multiple needs of man-machine objects, synsenting multiple scenarios, and taking into account the multi-dimensional requirements of bandwidth, delay, energy efficiency and cost. The high challenge of 6G technology is more urgent for the international unification of high-level standards, and it is impossible to develop satisfactory standards, and brainstorming is the right way. Wu Hequan pointed out that we need to create a better open ecology for 6G international cooperation and win respect in international cooperation through our leading technology.
