What is the difference between Windchill and Windchill+ SaaS?
For more than 10 years, PTC has been providing customers with cloud products. Given the high regulatory and compliance requirements of federal aerospace and defense and medical device manufacturers, we do offer industry verticalization products for these businesses. I think this is very important when we talk about Pal-V. We call it the Windchill Private Cloud product to distinguish it from the Windchill+ SaaS product launched on Atlas last April.
5X00622G01 What are the advantages?
Pal-V chose Windchill as the cloud platform because it is the only out-of-the-box implementation that is closely aligned with the CM2 methodology – the global enterprise standard for change and configuration management. For many verticals, such as the one Pal-V operates in, this is a key part. This is important because when a product needs to be changed, Windchill is able to capture issues or improvements raised by the product development team, help document and implement relevant updates, and then send the information to all stakeholders, whether they are internal or external to the company, through prototype change notifications. As a result, Windchill connects systems so that all teams can automatically update information across the enterprise. At the end of the day, this does allow them to focus their resources on high-value business opportunities and business outcomes.
What role does Cloud Windchill play in helping Pal-V achieve certification?
5X00622G01 PAL-V’s unique design process requirements mean that a powerful PLM system must be used. They first looked at the regulations that would need to be followed and then took them into account when designing the flying car. Before they implemented cloud Windchill, maintaining this compliance required a lot of manual processes and paperwork. Now, they have integrated PLM and quality management into one system. As these processes go digital, change management is at the forefront of driving compliance – both with local standards and with international regulations. In fact, PAL-V laid the foundation for compliance across the company, but implementing this one system in the right way meant they successfully complied with most of the regulations at once -Windchill did 80-90% of the work they needed to make it compliant.
