On the afternoon of June 26, 2024, the 12th Siemens China Youth Forum was officially launched in Beijing. Thirty competitors from various departments of Siemens came to the scene, and nearly 300 colleagues participated online to witness this exciting moment.
Launched in 2013, Siemens China Youth Forum is a growth platform that brings together young talents from different businesses and regions of Xijia. The forum will focus on 14 sustainability topics, and 19 teams, consisting of nearly 140 contestants, will gradually turn their ideas into reality over the next two months.
Opening address
Set sail on a new journey
SR-058/60/005/P0/21/S1/B0/T At the invitation of the host, we watched the review video of the Youth Forum for 12 years. Ma Qing, Director of Talent and organizational development and head of sustainable development of Siemens Greater China, said: “We don’t need to say much about the success of these 12 years, we only need to feel the significance and value of Young Talent Day from the enthusiasm of everyone signing up this year.” The 12th Young Talent Day was held for the first time as a self-nominated event and it was great to see so many outstanding young people on site actively discussing the important topic of sustainability to innovate to create greater business value and ultimately ‘make your idea a reality’.”
Nanda Burke, Global Head of Talent and Leadership at Siemens, also shared the latest P&O 2030 strategy, which, as Ma said, “is not only P&O’s strategy, but also the company’s future strategy for people and the organization.”
Spark of wisdom
New collision of thinking
In a follow-up Ask Us Anything session, Nanda, along with Henning Koehler, Global Head of Talent and Organizational Development Strategy and Ecology, and Qing Ma, spoke with young people.
The contestants raised their questions and opinions from the perspectives of company transformation, diversification and sustainable development, and the atmosphere was warm and energetic.
“As a female leader, I would like to know your thoughts on women in leadership positions and what advice do you have for women aspiring to management positions at Siemens?”
Nanda: “Women’s leadership is not just about women, it’s actually about all of us. For men, we’re talking about your wife and daughter. Female leadership is about diversity, and it gives us the opportunity to see everything from a different perspective. At the end of the day, all you have to do is be yourself.”
“If you could go back in time and go back to when you first joined the company, how would you respond to questions from your boss about how you would prefer to shape your career path, focusing on technology or management?”
Henning: “Choose the people you want to work with, do the work you want to do, be the person you want to be. With this belief, we have the opportunity to shape ourselves.”
Experience transfer
Insight sharing
SR-058/60/005/P0/21/S1/B0/T As an important part of the opening of the forum, several guests from the business department also expressed their expectations for the contestants.
Gong Jingbo, head of sustainability at DI MC BU, hopes that young people can help the business achieve a breakthrough from 0 to 1 to N, “make sustainability as business”.
Su Sunhe, head of sustainable development of DI PA BU, is looking forward to using the innovative energy of this young elite to help the business jointly seek the segmsegmed market demand, combined with new technologies to further help the business promotion and landing.
As the last champion team’s business Mentor, Li Zhan from DI MC BU will also continue to lead a new team in this competition. He mentioned that he hopes to see more commercial value in the final work and attract more customers.
At the same time, Zhang Ruoxi and Wang Hongdan, the winners of the previous competition, shared their successful experience in the competition and provided some pertinent advice for everyone, including how to focus on the goal, division of labor, balance work and competition.
We all believe that the Youth Forum provides a broad platform for the West family to strengthen connections, break through the traditional departmental Settings, and allow different partners to obtain adequate exchange and collision of ideas.
