GE Grid Solutions has introduced the Hydran M2, an advanced online transformer monitoring device designed to ensure power system reliability and reduce the risk of unplanned downtime by continuously monitoring dissolved gases and moisture in transformer oil to provide early warning of potential failures. With its built-in high-precision sensor, the Hydran M2 can measure key gases such as hydrogen, methane, ethylene and ethane in the oil in real time and track the moisture content, providing critical information on the health of the transformer.
The Hydran M2 device supports the connection of additional sensors, such as oil temperature, load current, etc., to collect more comprehensive data on transformer operation. This data can not only be transmitted through a variety of communication options, but can also be processed through the device’s built-in IEEE standards-based transformer mathematical model to provide more in-depth analysis and status information. In addition, the Hydran M2 features an easy-to-configure alarm system that alerts when abnormal gas or moisture levels are detected and supports up to two alarm Settings with different severity levels.
The Mark III version of the Hydran M2 features comprehensive improvements, including improved sensor durability, a new electronic board and power supply, while being RoHS compliant, enhancing the reliability and functionality of the device. It is not only suitable for transformers using mineral insulating oils, but also supports new types of natural or synthetic ester based oils.
The device is used in a wide range of applications, including power utilities, industrial sectors and more, to reduce the risk of production disruptions due to power failures and minimize costly downtime. The Hydran M2 provides a mathematical model of the transformer, based on IEEE standards and field experience, using inputs from available sensors to convert the received data into useful real-time information to further understand the overall health of the transformer.
In addition, the Hydran M2 is compatible with GE’s Perceptionâ„¢ software, which downloads, trends and analyzes transformer data, providing users with powerful data management and analysis tools. With these features, the Hydran M2 helps to improve the operational efficiency and longevity of transformers, reduce maintenance costs, and is an important asset monitoring and management tool for the power industry.
