General Electric’s (GE) Multilin brand recently introduced a new generator management relay, the 489-P5-LO-A20-E, as part of the GE SR family of relays designed for the protection, control and monitoring of induction or synchronous generators. Capable of operating at 25Hz, 50Hz or 60Hz, this relay provides a reliable solution for power systems and industrial automation.
The 489-P5-LO-A20-E relay has a 40-character display that allows users to view numerical information, diagnostics, and set values. The front panel is equipped with a numeric keypad and a variety of control keys, including status indicators, numerical up and down keys, RS232 port interfaces, and reset, input, menu and other controls and programming keys, allowing users to control without connecting to an external computer.
The relay’s rear panel includes 12 RTD inputs, 6 output relays, 2 RS485 communication ports and 4 VT inputs, of which the RTD input is field programmable. The communication port supports Modbus RTU or DNP 3.0 protocols with transmission rates up to 19200 bps. In addition, the relay offers four isolated 4-20 mA analog inputs and outputs, as well as seven assignable digital inputs to meet diverse industrial communications needs.
All inputs of 489-P5-LO-A20-E meet SWC, C37.990 EMI, RFI anti-interference standards, ensuring stable operation in harsh industrial environments. The introduction of this relay further enriches GE’s product line in the field of power system protection, providing customers with more efficient and reliable generator protection solutions.
Concluding remarks:
The introduction of GE Multilin’s new generator management relay 489-P5-LO-A20-E marks GE’s technological advancement in industrial automation and power system protection. The high performance and reliability of this relay is expected to be widely used worldwide to help customers improve power generation efficiency and system safety.
