Charlotte, NC, USA, April 26, 2023 — Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON), one of the world’s leaders in energy and climate transformation solutions, has released its Environmental Sustainability Index (ESI) for the second quarter of 2023. The quarterly index reflects key trends, attitudes and progress in global climate change mitigation actions and other sustainable development initiatives. More than 750 business leaders responsible for their companies’ environmental and sustainability work responded to the survey, which is based on increasing global environmental, social and governance (ESG) legislation and initiatives.
The release of the third edition of the Honeywell Environmental Sustainability Index shows that sustainability now continues to outperform all other corporate initiatives, including digital transformation and market performance, by a whopping 19 percentage points. Across the globe, energy development and efficiency are the priorities for sustainability over the next six months, followed by emission reduction, pollution prevention and recycling. The trend remained consistent with the previous two quarters, but recycling/recycling is showing faster growth momentum, indicating that companies will further optimize supply chains and material flows in the second half of the year to avoid waste by strengthening the renewal or recycling of products, services and resources.
“Through the data, we see that the commitment of enterprises to sustainable development has never wavered. Despite other challenges, business leaders continue to make this a top priority and are stepping up to action.” Vimal Kapur, President and COO of Honeywell, said, “Technology adoption is on the rise as more and more businesses look to newer, more efficient, and sustainable technologies to help achieve their goals. Honeywell’s proven solutions will support ESG’s efforts and help companies around the world achieve their sustainable development goals.”
The 2022 Environmental Sustainability Index shows that the vast majority of businesses promote sustainability through a process-driven approach. In the first quarter of 2023, more companies took a balanced approach to sustainability, applying more technology in addition to driving process changes to achieve their goals. During the quarter, respondents moved further toward adopting a technology-driven path. Fifty-six percent of respondents said they would use more technologies to achieve the SDGS in the next 12 months.
“Companies are investing in technology to meet their sustainable development goals.” Evan van Hook, Honeywell’s Chief Sustainability Officer, said, “We are seeing customers take positive actions to meet their goals, such as adopting sustainable aviation fuels, tracking and reducing carbon emissions from buildings, and increasing the use of advanced recycling solutions such as plastic recycling. The wave of development of AI technology is pushing the technology towards more intelligent and efficient direction, with profound implications for sustainable development.”
