There are still many outstanding problems in the promotion of intelligent manufacturing, which seriously restricts the development of intelligent manufacturing. In 2022, the Association of Intelligent Manufacturing of the China Association for Science and Technology launched a collection of “Ten Issues restricting the development of intelligent manufacturing in China”, and selected issues related to 5G fully connected factories, heterogeneous system integration, multi-source heterogeneous data, etc., for the reference of the government, intelligent manufacturing enterprises and research institutions, and planned to provide some condensed suggestions to the government. We will promote high-quality development of intelligent manufacturing.

1. Preface

Intelligent manufacturing, as the main direction of promoting the construction of a manufacturing power, has been highly valued by all sectors of government, industry, university and research, and a high degree of consensus has been formed to actively promote the implementation [1]. Governments at all levels have issued a series of intelligent manufacturing development plans, guidelines for the implementation of intelligent manufacturing projects, action plans and special actions, and launched a number of pilot and demonstration projects related to intelligent manufacturing, which have yielded fruitful results.

Although China has established the main direction of intelligent manufacturing and achieved remarkable results in the implementation, there are still many outstanding problems, which seriously restrict the development of intelligent manufacturing. At the technical level, there are many bottlenecks, intelligent manufacturing talent shortage, weak enterprise foundation and great differences, regional development is very unbalanced, the main body of the implementation of intelligent manufacturing — the majority of enterprises have a strong demand for intelligent upgrading but there are many puzzles and problems.

To this end, at the beginning of 2022, the Association of Intelligent Manufacturing Association of the China Association for Science and Technology launched the collection of “Ten Problems restricting the development of intelligent manufacturing in China”. To organize associations and units of the consortium members to recommend and select important issues restricting the development of intelligent manufacturing and release them to the society for the reference of the government, intelligent manufacturing enterprises and research institutions, and to summarize some suggestions to the government to promote the high-quality development of intelligent manufacturing.

2.5G fully connected factory four dumb problem

At present, a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises cannot obtain advanced wireless connection technology efficiently and at low cost, leading to the four dumb problems (see Figure 1) that cannot be effectively solved for a long time, which seriously restricts the intelligent upgrading of enterprises and affects the intelligent upgrading of the entire industrial chain and supply chain.
