ABB Xiamen Demonstration Base has implemented the “Zero Emission Vision” project and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 13,400 tons per year
Adopt new smart solutions that support new energy access to achieve clean energy replacement of 50% of the park’s electricity and save costs
ABB Xiamen Industrial Center “carbon neutral” park demonstration base project is the enterprise low-carbon transformation demonstration model
ABB Xiamen Industrial Center has recently taken a key step towards high-quality development, becoming a “carbon neutral” park and a demonstration base for sustainable intelligent manufacturing, which will drive China’s green and low-carbon transition forward. The project uses an innovative energy regulatory system that integrates new energy generation and storage systems to significantly reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency. It is a renewable and scalable low-carbon blueprint.
China aims to peak its carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and become carbon neutral by 2060. China now accounts for more than 28% of global manufacturing 1. A low-carbon transition in China’s manufacturing sector is critical to achieving carbon neutrality.
ABB Xiamen Industrial Center, which covers 425,000 square meters and employs 3,000 people, is expected to reduce 13,400 tons of carbon emissions per year by implementing ABB’s Global Zero Emissions Vision Program. The project will provide customers and partners around the world with a good example of how ABB’s smart digital technologies can turn its vision of decarbonization and emission reduction (indirect emissions from electricity use) into a reality.
ABB Xiamen Industrial Center, with its advanced medium and low voltage switchgear and circuit breaker production lines, has achieved 50% green electricity replacement through the installation of 100,000 square meters of rooftop PV. Through multi-strategy precise and flexible regulation technology, greater local consumption of clean energy can be realized, and energy use efficiency can be improved through the coordination of source, load and storage. The smart energy solution is equipped with generation forecasting and load forecasting AI algorithms to predict generation and consumption and deploy regulatory strategies to achieve a balance between low-carbon and economic power consumption.
The ABB Ability™ ZEE600 intelligent energy management platform is deployed in the project to precisely control the “source-net-charge-storage” of the park. The platform is connected to photovoltaic, energy storage, power distribution, HVAC, lighting, charging piles and other energy facilities to achieve optimal energy management for the entire park. Among them, eStorage smart energy storage house solutions, covering power distribution and control equipment, through the smart energy management system ZEE600 regulation and management, effectively balance photovoltaic fluctuations, improve the photovoltaic local consumption rate; The DC microgrid provides an effective demonstration for the wide application of optical storage and soft technology.
The power system of ABB Xiamen Industrial Center is connected to the virtual power plant platform of State Grid Xiamen Power Supply Company. Through the demand side response of independent regulation of energy management system, the “source-load interaction” is formed, which strongly supports the construction of new power system.
Distributed rooftop photovoltaic power distribution module, intelligent energy storage module, orderly charging management of building load and charging pile are all modular solutions. This allows ABB Xiamen Industrial Center solutions to be easily replicated at other sites, reducing installation time and project complexity. These packaging solutions and medium and low voltage distribution equipment are manufactured locally in China.
Zhao Yongzhan, president of ABB Electric China, said that ABB Xiamen Industrial Center “carbon neutral” park demonstration base project is a demonstration model of enterprises’ low-carbon transformation, and its scope and implementation path can provide effective demonstration value for enterprises’ rapid low-carbon transformation. Through the wide application of ABB’s innovative technologies, we are showing how to accelerate the process of decarbonization. At the same time, the demonstration site shows customers and partners how smart technologies can enable low-carbon development today.
ABB is actively involved in the construction of major projects and critical infrastructure in China and around the world. In particular, ABB Xiamen products have been successfully applied in Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, Beijing-Shanghai high-speed Railway, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and many leading Internet companies’ data centers.
ABB Xiamen Industrial Center joins other locations in China, Italy, Finland, Germany and the Netherlands in joining the journey “towards carbon neutrality.”
