As for the benefits brought by the application of information technology to national and local key enterprises, the relevant departments recently released a survey results show that every 1 yuan of investment can produce 1.64 yuan of benefits.
The survey was conducted by the Office of the National Enterprise Informatization Leading Group and the Economic Information Center of the State Economic and Trade Commission in 2002. The respondents were key state-owned enterprises, 520 state key enterprises, 120 pilot enterprise groups and local key enterprises. A total of 570 questionnaires were collected.
The survey results show that the informatization construction and application have brought positive changes and obvious benefits to enterprises, and the satisfaction of enterprises to the informatization effect has increased. First of all, the construction and application of information technology has brought positive changes to the production, operation and management of enterprises. According to the survey, 77.5% of enterprises have reduced costs (such as procurement costs and overtime costs) through informatization; 67% of enterprises have shortened the production cycle and operation time; 64.6% of enterprises increased product sales revenue; 66.3 percent of enterprises increased their working capital turnover; 36.7 percent of enterprises improved their ability to deliver goods on time. Secondly, informatization brings direct economic benefits to enterprises. By the end of 2001, 279 enterprises in 570 households had invested 7.1 billion yuan in informatization construction, generating 11.7 billion yuan in direct economic benefits, with 1.64 yuan in benefits for every 1 yuan invested.
The survey results show that enterprises have generally raised the informatization budget and increased the informatization investment. The survey also shows that the level of enterprise informatization construction and application is still not high, and the investment of enterprise informatization construction is still insufficient. In terms of the proportion of absolute investment in total assets, only 0.75 percent, and foreign large enterprises generally 8 to 10 percent of the proportion. The shortage and serious loss of informatization talents, especially interdisciplinary talents, is also an important factor restricting the construction of enterprise informatization.
In addition, enterprises reflect that the product structure of the domestic IT industry is unreasonable, the foundation is weak, and the technology level is low, which cannot meet the needs of enterprise informatization construction.
