On May 30, the second phase of Midea Kuka Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Park in Beijiao town of Shunde was officially put into operation. Midea Kuka Intelligent Manufacturing Science and Technology Park covers an area of 433 mu, is currently the largest robot ontology production base in South China, with the second phase of production, the park is planned to produce 80,000-100,000 robots per year in the future, further helping the localization of intelligent manufacturing development.
Zheng Ke, Secretary of Foshan Municipal Committee, Bai Tao, Deputy Secretary of Foshan Municipal Committee and Mayor, Liu Zhiyong, Standing Committee of Foshan Municipal Committee and Secretary of Shunde District Party Committee, Zhou Zixiao, Deputy Mayor of Foshan City, District Zhoming, deputy secretary of Shunde District Party Committee and Mayor attended the event.
In March 2018, Midea Group and Kuka Group set up a joint venture to build a new Midea Kuka intelligent manufacturing Technology Park to jointly explore the vast Chinese robot market. A year later, the first phase of the plant was put into use.
Midea Kuka Phase II project started in April 2021, with an investment of 800 million yuan, and the construction of six plants covering 200,000 square meters has been completed. The plants have been put into use since the end of last year. At present, the park has about 1,000 resident staff and more than 50% scientific and technological personnel. By the end of April this year, the park had produced and delivered more than 57,000 industrial robots to customers, with a turnover of more than 8.2 billion yuan and a cumulative output value of more than 9.5 billion yuan.
Since its inception, the output of Kuka Robot has exceeded 17,000 units in 2021, accounting for about 14 percent of the market share of the industrial robot industry in the province. At the launch ceremony, Xu Guiyou, general manager of Kuka China, said that the full operation of the park is another important milestone in Kuka’s development. In the future, the robot production capacity will be planned to be 80,000 to 100,000 units per year, comprehensively promoting the localization of robot supply and supporting the automation and digital transformation of the manufacturing industry.
Now, in the Midea Kuka Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Park, a fully automated production line of “robots producing robots” has been “running”. It is the first “robot-made robot” production line in Guangdong and the first fully automated production line for heavy-duty robots in China, opening people’s new imagination for the “factory of the future”.
The program, assembly and debugging of the robot are all independently developed by Kuka. It takes only half an hour for a robot to complete a job that takes more than 2 hours manually. It can also run 24 hours non-stop, so as to achieve truly standardized production. A standard production line, which used to produce about 20 robots a day, can now produce about 40.
At the 8th China Robot Summit recently held, Kuka China’s KR 500 FORTEC drew attention. It can achieve repeated accurate positioning of 0.08 mm and easily carry large and heavy components weighing up to 500 kg. It is widely used in new energy vehicle tri-electric system, 5G radiator, aerospace, heavy industry, metallurgy and other fields.
It is worth noting that Midea Kuka intelligent manufacturing Technology Park also actively introduces upstream suppliers of the industrial chain and improves the industrial chain layout to build robot industrial clusters and help the development of the robot industry. At present, a total of 9 upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain have entered, covering a number of core robot parts. It is expected that the supply chain supporting of the park will reach more than 85%.
